Spiritual Teachings From the Labyrinth
It is a blessing when the otherwise pervasive Northwestern rain and wind stops for a while, and the sun comes out.
The sun came out, and enabled me to go walk the labyrinth in our back yard!

Labyrinths are ancient and can be found in all parts of the world, and appear to have evolved independently of people across continents having had any contact with each other.
A Labyrinth is not a "maze;" a labyrinth has only one entrance, and one path that leads to the center. There are no "blind alleys" and no places to get "lost" in a labyrinth. When you follow the path, you will automatically end up in the center.
The layout of the paths is such that sometimes you get quite close to the center, and then the path takes you back towards where you started, then back closer to the center and so on — until you finally reach your objective.
Labyrinths are a great spiritual metaphor for our journeys through life. Sometimes we are far from our objective, sometimes we are close, and with persistence and perseverance we will eventually get there.
But you can't stay at the center of the labyrinth. Like life, we get to experience those high points, but it's not feasible to stay there all the time. Our dream holiday in Bali may be very real but we get to be there for two weeks, not all the time.
But, like the labyrinth, we can go back, once we know how to get there.
