SPIRITUAL FOOD 4 THOUGHT : CHURCH LEADERSHIP SERIES - DOES THE NEW TESTAMENT TEACH US ANYTHING ABOUT "PASTORS?"

in #spirituality5 years ago

There is surprisingly very little mentioned.

Since the words "pastor" and "pastors" only appear once in the entire KJV New Testament, it can make one wonder if the New Testament teaches us anything about who a pastor is, or what qualifications they should have.

Using the Greek word "poimén" (Strong's Concordance GREEK #4166) we only really come up with one passage in the New Testament to consider on this issue, which is John 10. In this video, I share three potential things to consider when attempting to answer that particular question.

Obviously, this is just one small part of a much larger picture, but thankfully we'll be covering more next time.

That is quite alarming with how little it is used compared to how these people are seen in modern day society. For me at least they always just seem like hired workers whose end goal was to collect 20% from the flock every week. People would even be seen as sinner for not giving that kind of money. Which I was do not understand how in any way money should be involved when it comings to how you are seen in religion. I’ve not been in a physical church for quite some time.

Yeah, it's amazing how far things have strayed.

It's a night and day difference between NT church function and modern times. I believe a big reason for the potency of the early church was because they functioned properly according to scriptures.

You have no idea how many leaders will say that none of that actually matters to the church now. They say that there is not solid model for the church. It can't be any clearer than Jesus' own words and what scripture clearly says about the church

Man, you should get some rest... and so should I. Thanks Brother!

Dare I put this on the table:

"There [John 6:68–69] speaks Peter, upon whom the Church would be built, teaching in the name of the Church and showing that even if a stubborn and proud multitude withdraws because it does not wish to obey, yet the Church does not withdraw from Christ. The people joined to the priest and the flock clinging to their shepherd are the Church. You ought to know, then, that the bishop is in the Church and the Church in the bishop, and if someone is not with the bishop, he is not in the Church. They vainly flatter themselves who creep up, not having peace with the priests of God, believing that they are
secretly [i.e., invisibly] in communion with certain individuals. For the Church, which is one and Catholic, is not split nor divided, but it is indeed united and joined by the cement of priests who adhere one to another" (ibid., 66[69]:8).

&

"There is one God and one Christ, and one Church, and one chair founded on Peter by the word of the Lord. It is not possible to set up another altar or for there to be another priesthood besides that one altar and that one priesthood. Whoever has gathered elsewhere is scattering" (Letters 43[40]:5 [A.D. 253]).

Just some food for thought about "The one chair founded on Peter by the word of the Lord."

Peter the Rock, Peter the fisherman, Peter the man who was given a task by the good man himself, our Lord JC.
