The surrendered state of consciousness

When many people hear the word surrender, they often associate it with the egoic outlook of defeat or giving up.
However, it is absolutely beautiful.

The surrendered state of consciousness does not need MORE of anything because if you need more of anything, even achieving spiritual attainment, it is not the surrendered state. If you need more knowledge, more experience, more money, more possessions and social status, that is not the surrendered state of consciousness. The psychological need for the next moment, which is deep in all of us, the "what's next?" That restless mind looking toward the non existent future, which is the mass human state of consciousness-is all the unsurrendered state.

In the surrendered state, you don't need more to complete yourself. You can play with what the universe has given you. Playing with phenomenal things is beautiful in that sense. There is a difference between the two. Yes, you'll need more food later and you can add more skills to your life-that's part of living in this form. However, the psychological need for more, the self needing to enhance itself more-realize that is the unsurrendered state.

The last thing people don't want to let go of is to surrender the need to understand more. You go into the surrendered state when you simply welcome this moment in whatever form it takes.

More so than not, this moment does not look so satisfying. So to say, "I surrender to this moment including whatever I feel is not right" whether it be anger, resentment, or restlessness, and then follow that with, "So you want me to be stuck like this forever?" is not going to get you far. If you understand the practice and look internally, that's not what it is.

The illusion that you can control the material universe, the illusion that "out there" is anything substantial to last is just that, an illusion. The malls and stores, big houses, and all things materialistic in the physical realm will eventually crumble-it's insubstantial. The only way to be "here" unless you are addicted to the suffering is to surrender to what is. It doesn't mean you can make requests based on your preference. You can say something and do something and initiate action, but in that be surrendered because it may not work.

Whatever action arises, let it arise out of the state of alignment with the form this moment takes, even if it appears unsatisfactory to you. Sometimes the form this moment takes is beautiful and then the next moment or rather the next form this moment takes may not be so beautiful and feel like a limitation on your freedom. You can observe the reactivity of the little "me" that says no to what is internally and wants to be somewhere else or complains and criticizes in the mind about the form this moment takes.

Observe the fact that this is how the egoic mind survives-always through resistance that can be sometimes very powerful. Be watchful and alert. Ask yourself and observe yourself internally, "Am I in the surrendered state or the unsurrendered state of consciousness?" The unsurrendered state denies, resists, and tries to get away from what is. When you surrender, you do not demand the form of this moment takes should be different.

A form arises (event, situation, or person) and the ego complains, "it's happening now." Of course it is happening now. Nothing can happen that is not now. We cannot fully understand through the mind what that means, but it is an amazing realization that there is nothing but NOW. The present moment and life are one in the same.

What happens when you resist, deny, or run away from the now? It will only strengthen the "form identity" in you that is the mind made self-identifying with the mental,physical, and emotional forms. The "me" with its experiences, conditioning, and knowledge traps you in a world of form when you are in a reactive relationship towards what arises. This will only keep the egoic sense of self and consciousness in a destructive cycle.

Enter the state of nonresistance and welcoming with whatever form (life situation) arises. Disconnect yourself from the ego-making you believe the lie that you are weak. If you let go of that lie, you will see internally you are as strong as you always knew you were.
