Spiderman 1 (2002) Review

I was about 8 or 9 when i first saw this film. when i first saw the poster for this film words cant explain how excited i was to saw spiderman on the big screen.

theres allot of things about this movie that dont hold up, like some of the special effects, the dialoge, the green goblin suit (althpugh i do enjoy him in this film) and the american flag at the end. but if you put those aside theres also allot of things that do hold up.all three movies have a flowing three act structure. peter parkers story is told really well you can see the inspiration from the stan lee and steve ditko comics in this film. watching new york city and with spidey swinging is also awesome as hell. i will admit at times some of the fights feel a bit power rangers like at times. but the fight at the end is one of my favourite fights in any spiderman movie. i love the setting of it the tone and the motivations behind it.

i also like Mj in this film, yes she is a damsel at times but i like her mainly when shes with peter and you see her appreciating him more for his kindness and for making her feel like shes more, at the end you know she loves peter and peter loves her too and the decision he makes determines him overall. i did a review for superman and i mentioned that each act represents clarks three stages of life. with peter it represents 1) where he starts 2) what he desires to become and him learning as he goes 3) learning what sacrifices he has to make as spiderman.

one of my favourite representations of that is on the bridge when he saves MJ and the kids on the rail. the main part i love is the shot of spideys face and in his eyes you see who he has to save and the first word that comes to my mind is 'Choice.' and after that shot you see the kids falling and then then another shot of MJ falling. and straight afterwards you see him making that choice and then running to save them both. that is a story so damn well told and is through brilliant filmmaking by Sam Raimi. theres a bunch of video essays on youtube that talk about how good the first two movies are even sometimes talk about the third film. sam raimi directs this movie with a good narrative that has good development and in allot of ways other superhero films don't do today. allot of it has to do the death of uncle ben and to the green goblin and peters relationship with norman, Mj, Harry and aunt may. even though the green goblin and the death of uncle ben are two seperate storys they feel very joined up and link so well that going back to the three act structure flows very well.
it works because you see peter through those two storys learn about responsibility. from what uncle ben told him with great power comes great responsibility you see hi lear that not just as he becomes spiderman but as he is spiderman.

yes the green goblin is over the top especially when norman and goblin interact you cant deny that there is creativity in those scenes, i also cant deny its silly as hell. also the funniest scene in my opinion is the scene where spiderman and green goblin just talk. mainly when goblin does his rapper pose LOL.

also one thing i still love to this day is spiderman suit one of the best super suits i've seen on film, its a suit i've never forgotten to this day its very iconic.

although in time other films have improved and unimproved spiderman in some ways this film started the spiderman films and truly bring the life of peter parker to life.

What ever Life Holds is store for me, i will Never Forget These words."With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility, This is My Gift, My Curse, Who am I? I'm Spider-man.
