MODERN ROOTS OF RACISM : EVOLUTION

in #speakyourmind8 years ago

Simply put, ideas have consequences.

I believe that certain forms of racism and tribalism have existed for a very long time, way before Charles Darwin or others. Make no mistake about that. However, the belief in evolutionism cannot really be separated from racism, and ultimately the idea of evolution, if drawn to its logical conclusion, ends in racism. Before you write me off, please consider the following.

CHARLES DARWIN EVIDENCE # 1 - THE ORIGIN OF THE SPECIES

Certain evolutionary beliefs also existed long before the likes of Charles Darwin ever showed up. However, it is commonly accepted that Mr. Darwin is basically the "father of modern evolutionism" and was certainly used to promote the belief in that idea.

Many will point to his volume titled "The Origin of the Species," but that was NOT the actual title of the book, now was it?

"On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life"

Oh, right. People conveniently leave out that racist little part about "the preservation of favoured races..." I wonder which one was Charlie's favorite? Anyone want to bet on "white?" Now perhaps "favoured races" isn't really a racist thing to say, but if that is the case, why can't the modern preacher of atheism and evolutionism Richard Dawkins remember the full title of that particular book?

Richard Dawkins could not remember the full title of On the Origin of Species when challenged by the Rev Giles Fraser on Radio 4's Today.

I guess we only have two options for that one; either Richard Dawkins was trying to hide the real title, or maybe he is just ignorant about it. Personally, I can't say.

CHARLES DARWIN EVIDENCE # 2 - THE DESCENT OF MAN

You can choose to believe what you want about the original full title of "The Origin of the Species" as released back in November of 1859, but please consider this additional piece of evidence. Years later, in February of 1871, "The Descent of Man" was released by the same author, Charles Darwin himself. Here is a quote from that volume.

At some future period, not very distant as measured by centuries, the civilised races of man will almost certainly exterminate and replace throughout the world the savage races. At the same time the anthropomorphous apes, as Professor Schaaffhausen has remarked, will no doubt be exterminated. The break will then be rendered wider, for it will intervene between man in a more civilised state as we may hope, than the Caucasian and some ape as low as a baboon, instead of as at present between the negro or Australian and the gorilla.
source

Again, you can choose for yourself how to understand what may have been meant when Mr. Darwin used terms like "civilised races" and "savage races," but it is also worth reiterating that he mentioned those "civilised races of man will almost certainly exterminate and replace throughout the world the savage races." Beyond a shadow of a doubt, he was speaking about "races of man." I suppose that the whole process, in Darwin's eyes, was just part of the evolutionary process as "natural selection" took place.

RICHARD DAWKINS EVIDENCE

In his 1982 book "The Extended Phenotype" Richard Dawkins had this to say:

The fact that human races aren't categorized as separate subspecies is an insult to me and the objective work of evolutionary biologists. There is more than enough evidence out there to conclude that we're separate subspecies with different ways of functioning neurologically...
source

From an evolutionary viewpoint, I can understand where he is coming from. However, I do not believe in the "molecules to man" type of evolution that these people do, and I do not appreciate the racist undertone of their belief system.

ARE YOU A MONKEY OR A MAN?

Simply put, racism is a problem. It is just one more way that we are being taught to distance ourselves from others and even hate them. I cannot help but see that racism really cannot be seen as false if evolution is true. Personally, I do not believe in "races." There is one race, the human race, and we are all human. This is why we can marry and reproduce with one another; we are human.

I don't care about elite bloodlines, won't participate in the extinction of "savage races of man," and don't even have my own "favoured races." I don't care if evolutionary biologists are insulted. I don't buy it. However, I will not just fight against the symptom that is racism, I'll fight against the root causes as well, even if it is the "sacred cow" evolutionism.

As always, you can believe what you want, but believing something doesn't make it true. Moreover, ideas have consequences. You will not be able to trick me into believing that any many is less than human, or more of a monkey.

I'll share some more next time, but just wanted to share this for now, even if it may be "kicking a hornet nest."

EVOLUTION vs. GOD

If anyone wants to, please check out the video above where Ray Comfort interviews some of the leading evolutionary scientists from some of the world's top universities. It's worth your time if you are willing to take a peak, and the total run time is just under 40 minutes.

As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proof:

This is a great video, I highly recommend everyone watch it!

I agree! Upvoted for added visibility!

Evolutionary thinking has lead to more genocides than any other ideology. Ideas have consequences, indeed. The fool says in his heart, "there is no God." Psalm 14:1

If we can dismiss another as "not human" or "less human" then it is easier to be evil to them, or even kill them.

This is exactly what most religions do. Think of non believers in their particular brand of religion as worth less, need to be converted, heretics etc.

Great post @papa-pepper but I have to disagree with you regarding evolution (cue massive downvotes!!).

The lack of belief in a God does not make someone bad, just as the belief in one does not. It is bad people that use these things as an excuse to justify bad acts.

Religion is just an extension of culture and what you are taught growing up which is why the vast majority of people follow the same religion as their parents and Grandparents. Its tribal. If it wasn't, people would make informed decisions and pick different religions based on their various merits.

At the end of the day, we all bring something in the table to complement ourselves.
I read you all the time.
Yes we are humans.
Keep on steemit.

You hit the nail on the head on this post. My father always told us that it doesn't make a difference in what color a persons skin is. There is good and bad in everyone it is just harder to find the good in people.

Thanks for the encouragement @coffeetime!

racism is a widespread issue today. As for me, I dont care if you're black or white as long as you're kind and you have a heart of a human. We all deserve to live in this world, after all we are all human.

I agree, you will not be defined by skin tone in my books.

In today's era racism is abolishing but speciesism is a big concern as we human being not treating our fellow earthling animal in right way, they also have same right to live on this planet respectfully as we human being have.
Adopting vegan lifestyle is a answer of speciesism. Thanks for the nice post!

Preach that to a shark, lion, wolf, or eagle. I'm sure they will all repent of their predatory nature and change their proverbial spots and stop speciating.

@bluerthangreen It is not fair to compare that animals to human being. It is there nature and necessity to prey other animals. Human do agriculture of animal and they are born to kill, have no freedom in their entire life wile other animals follow nature's rule and just prey when they are hungry.
Human can't prey and eat animal, we the human being torture them for their whole life and slaughter them for food, and make them tasty with other ingredients. It is not human instinct to kill animal for food, we do not salivate while see any pig, hen or cow, we feel compassion for them. Human being can survive without killing farmed animal while the animal you mention above can't survive without prey, that is the basic difference.

good information my friend.
my friend has been alive

i liked this post dear my friend

What did you like about it?

Sorry i did not understand your words

I enjoyed reading your article very much.

There is one race, the human race, and we are all human!

All ideas have consequences and racism is not only the consequence of the wrong ideology but also an infectious disease effecting more and more of the human race.

Good writing @papa-pepper.Thanks for sharing. i like your post and following.

Really this is so amazing! I think that many writers are wrong due their beliefs of evolution. I support you and I'm so gladly for I read a post else of you.

Thanks for the encouragement, sometimes people stay away from touchy subjects, but we should talk about them.

True. It is too important!
