Pez Linterna
Existen varias especies y la mayoria viven en las profundidades donde la luz casi no llega a penetrar. Los más llamativos son los de la especie Himantolophus, que cuentan con uno o varios cilos, similares a una aleta alargada, que emiten luz gracias a las bacterias bioluminiscentes que albergan.
El pez de la foto, un Himantolophus groenlandicus, tiene dos ojos muy poco desarrollados, por lo que esta luz le sirve para dos cosas: mejorar su visión y atraer a las presas que, en su entorno de oscuridad, sienten atracción por los puntos luminosos. Para suplir su falta de visión, también cuenta en los laterales con varios puntos plateados que son sensores de movimiento y presión.
