Importancia de la embriología
• Nos proporciona conocimientos desde el comienzo de la vida y los cambios que se dan durante el desarrollo prenatal.
• Nos ayuda a comprender las causas de las variaciones en la estructura humana.
• Nos aclara la anatomía macroscópica y explica las relaciones entre estas estructuras que pueden ser normales o anómalas.
• Apoya a la investigación y la aplicación de células progenitoras en el tratamiento de ciertas enfermedades crónicas.
Teratología
Rama de la embriología y la patología, aborda las alteraciones en el desarrollo prenatal, las cuales se conocen como malformaciones congénitas o genéticas.
• Malformación genética es una anomalía en el código genético heredado por los padres.
• Malformación congénita es una anomalía en el desarrollo prenatal por otros factores ya sean ambientales o exposición de la madre a agentes tóxicos, se dan por lo general en el primer trimestre de embarazo
