How to be a better spammer - part II: Comments

in #spam6 years ago

So last week we talked about motivation, about why being a spammer is not easy. Motivation is key to being a good spammer. But even with enough motivation, what should you actually do to be the best spammer you can be? So in episode II of this spam-tutorial I would like to talk about comments.

No followers? No problem!

Of course, spammers don't get a lot of followers. Somehow people do not like to follow spammers, and this has several reasons, including the lack of original content on the spammers' blog.
But this is not a problem. Followers are only important when you actually do write up interesting posts. But writing and selecting good information take up a lot of time. And without followers that content will not even be read. So why bother with writing meaningful content that is valued by the Steemit community? Right.

Comments!

Which is why it's not strange that most spammers focus on commenting. Everybody who writes a post is happy about any attention they may get, right? Many authors will get a notification whenever someone comments on their post. Commenting is thus the ideal way to get the attention a real spammer longs for.

But, what is a good spammy comment? These are some general guidelines.
Please be aware that the right kind of spam largely depends on context and the level of spamminess required.

What are good spam comments?

  • The best spammy comments are comments that are not too obviously spam, as those would not get any positive attention.
  • The more comments you can give, the more chance you have to get attention. So therefore it's important to find the right balance between finding the good posts to comment on, reading the post and writing a good comment.
  • In reality this means that you comment on every post no matter what it's about, without reading the post, with a sloppy comment.
  • It is important to reach a certain minimum spam quality level. The best advice is here is to work on the comment itself. Forget the reading of those posts. TLDR.
  • Make sure to use some words. Not too few, as people will not take you seriously. Using proper English grammar also helps. But make sure not to write too many words per comment, as otherwise it might be difficult to acknowledge your comment as spam.
  • Relate to the content of the post. Of course you don't actually need to read any of the post. By scrolling down real fast, consider if there is something that caught your eye.
  • An image for instance, is an excellent entry point. Is it a bird? Ask what kind of bird it is. Is it art? Talk about the feelings that were evoked by seeing it. Even if it was only a tiny feeling, provoked by that one second you saw the image. It will be hard to resist reading your comment.
  • Make sure to give some extremely positive feedback. That way the author cannot possibly not upvote you, and will also be less inclined to write a response. Of course it is not a problem if someone comments on your spammy comment, but as a real spammer, you will want to hit as many posts as possible, instead of getting stuck having an actual conversation about a single posts.

Looking forward to all the spammy comments!
And remember, your spam is noticed. Always.

Did I do better? :'D

You are such a great spammer :) And you really develop a great hand for the designs - love it #spam #upvoted

I would like all potential flaggers to know this is a joke comment meant for the author as an inside joke (totally spoils the joke)

But I didn't say anything yet?!

The wisdom is great, of having your post with such wisdom. Always follow for such wisdom, because it is in coffee.

Of course, another great strategy is to ask the original poster's permission to resteem. Works almost every time...

Sadly, some people might actually take your post seriously...

I'm pretty sure those who take it seriously, will not have read the post.
Great wisdom! Keep it up! I'm sure you can still improve to become an even better spammer! Follow me follow you.

Don't be too sure... some are definitely looking for some validation of their spammycious attitudes. You're the philosopher --people see what they want to see, right?

Can't believe you're still on this. :D

Lol, wondering if any spammer would bother to read the whole post!
