Music at Mass in 5 minutes | Organ music | 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time (C)

in #sonicgroove5 years ago (edited)

Hi Steemians! This is a compilation video of the organ music I played at Mass yesterday. The church has two pipe organs, both electric action. The smaller organ is two ranks extended and the main organ is 11 ranks. The main organ is up in the gallery and the console is located on the ground, directly opposite. I much prefer mechanical action because you feel much more 'attached' to instrument and can control the speaking of notes better. However, the advantage of having the console much further away from the organ is that you hear what the listener can hear down in the nave. Since mechanical instruments have to be physically close to the organ, you get the full blast of the organ at close range—this can be unpleasant.

As organists, we have to bear in mind how the listener perceives the sound. What may seem ok close to the organ, may sound like a muddy mashing of notes down in the nave. This is particularly the case in a church or building with a lively acoustic. In that case, the organist might need to play a little slower or articulate more to make sure each note is clearly defined. In a dry acoustic, playing slightly faster and minimising articulation may help it to sound more pleasant.

At this church I get to hear what the congregation hears, so when I'm recording I don't have to setup a separate recording device down in the nave. However, because I'm using the onboard mic of my Zoom Q2N, it unfortunately picks up the console noise and the cantor (my brother!) much louder than I would have liked.

I hope you enjoy this short compilation of Music at Mass in 5 minutes. For reference, here is the music list:

  • Love is His Word
  • Lord, have Mercy
  • Glory to God in the Highest
  • Responsorial Psalm
  • Gospel Acclamation
  • Be Thou My Vision
  • Seek, O Seek the Lord
  • Now Thank We All Our God

You're fortunate to be able to use the new tag already. I have he strange experience of almost (but not quite) feeling sorry for myself being on holidays and not having an organ to record something.
Though I think voting already generates some SONIC for both of us.

We miss your recordings but enjoy your holiday and I look forward to seeing them when you return. Yes, I think we’ll both get SONIC now. I also noticed that it can’t be delegated to another account so I’ve increased the scot multiplier on my account for SONIC to help when I upvote another musicians.

P.S. I want to go on holiday too 🌴

Delegation will probably come at a later moment. Then I have to choose which token to keep in my main account and which to delegate.
How does the Scot multiplier work? When I upvote you 100% and I have a multiplier of 2 on SONIC than you get 200% in SONIC if you've used the proper tag? And where do I set such a multiplier?

I had already seen the first two, but not the third, so thanks for pointing it out. It'll need some thinking and experimenting what works best for me. Luckily I have all the time in the world for that, being on holidays... 😁
