Little Boy (Howl) — Original Music
Remember that poem I posted a couple weeks ago??
It decided it wanted to be a song.
I watched an amazing Ted talk (performance, really) by Natalie Merchant on poems and how she turned them into songs and I got inspired. Poetry is inherent in songwriting — even as far back as the Greek Sappho, poets were singing and performing their work. Why? Because language has music in it. And poetry at its core is raw and vulnerable and ties straight into our heart. Music can give it a voice.
And so I sat down and began fiddling with it. Noodling around with chords. Seeing how the words wanted to sing themselves. I have written many other songs before, but this was the first time I’ve attempted to write a song that didn’t have rhyming verse. As I worked with it, music began to emerge.
I hope you enjoy! 🙂
