Basically, one of the defining features of crypto currency is the cryptographic hash address. Long strings of letters and numbers that are not friendly to humans. But steem has usernames as addresses, which are human readable, so the byteball decided to link up with steem, and if you merge your steem username with a byteball wallet, the will give you some money based on reputation.
