Roses

in #song7 years ago (edited)

And the bottle of whiskey stayed dry
And the package of cigars,
that you gave me,
I haven't touched them
Since the day you died

I remember sitting beside your bed
Holding your hand,
begging you not to leave me

You looked at me and said:
"Oh you fool, I always loved you, even when you were drunk"

And the bottle of whiskey stayed dry
And the package of cigars thay you gave me
I haven't touched them
since the day you died

And as I closed your eyes...

I shaked all over and felt light in my head

And the bottle of whiskey stayed dry

But the roses
on your grave
Are still alive...

There are some low voice register parts in this song. And also very loud screaming desperated ones. At least in the way I intended and performed it.

It has been a while since I wrote these lyrics. A recent post by @meesterboom triggert this memory. Although his song is a bit more joyfull. ;-)

Goodness me, done really fantastic lyrics there mate and some heart tugging sadness too. You have the guitar and everything, it demands a hearing!!!

Thank you so much, I am glad you like it, it felt kinda going publicly naked posting this, soulwise. Performing it, will make me feel like I show my bones too. Yet, I will consider.

It does, in a way, resonate with one poem of yours.

I do like it very much, you will know that I am a sucker for that style of thing. It can be a wee bit daunting painting an intimate picture like that with words I know that for a fact. I hesitate a lot with some of my more sadder poetry.

Perhaps the one I did for the Runaway Rhymes contest? I think it did resonate with that one. The man reminiscing over his lost love who passed awaybefore him.

For me that is true also. And it could be experienced as quite confrontating. Some feedback I got for this song was: "Okay... It is good, really, but, could also do a bit more happy ones?" There is a balance, and these kind of sad expressions are appreciated by many, in the right moment. Even shadows are part of light. Sharing them can be scary indeed.

And that is the one rhyme that echoes a feeling alike.

I am with you on that dudester. I mean i like happy, in fact sometimes too much i see the happy side of things. But to truly know one emotion you often have to know well the opposite. So to me a truly sad, emotion wrenching poem, song or piece of writing really touches me and reminds me of the darker times but also the promise that those times are only one side of the coin.

That sums it up for me perfectly mate...

Thank you, it is indeed about a sad aspect of our excistence.

Yes I think it will resonate with many people.
