תחרות סולאר דקתלון 2018 קוראת לקבוצות מרחבי העולם לבנות בתים המתקיימים על אנרגיה סולארית. הקבוצה הישראלית מורכבת מסטודנטים ממוסדות לימוד שונים: המסלול האקדמי המכללה למנהל, ''אפקה''- .המכללה האקדמית להנדסה גבוהה והפקולטה לחקלאות השנה, אנו מציגים בפניכם את בית הקקטוס! "בית הקקטוס" הוא בית שכיף לגור בו ויוצר הזדמנויות לאינטראקציות בין הדיירים ובין הדיירים למבנה עצמו, זאת באמצעות עקרונות עיצוביים של כלכלה שיתופית אשר חוסכים באנרגיה, ידידותיים לסביבה, מפחיתים עלויות ומשפרים את איכות החיים של הדיירים. העקרונות ההנדסיים כוללים בנייה לפי סטנדרט שלושת הכוכבים הסיני והתקן הישראלי לבנייה ירוקה, שימוש במערכות האנרגיה והטכנולוגיות החדישות ביותר שזמינות כיום כגון מים אפורים, מערכת גז טבעי, תאורה סולארית ועוד.

The U.S department of energy Solar Decathlon challenges colligate teams to design, build and operate solar-powered houses that are cost affective, energy efficient and attractive. This year, AFEKA Collage of Engineering, The Collage of Management- Academic Studies and the Robert H. Smith Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment, joined forces to create the Cactus Home- an energy efficient house with innovative engineering solutions such as the ''smart home'' system. The project is urban oriented to address the last decades tendencies and constrains; the urban space shortage and people's desire to stay in the cities without compromising on the major principals of their life.

Follow the fascinating progress of the Cactus Home from planning and building stage, to the exhibition in Israel and the final contest at Dezhou, China on July 2018.
