Is It Finally Time To Regulate The Internet..? --The First Problem--
I'm not a fan of big government, I do understand their reason for existence, but I don't like anyone trying to dictate how I should live my life.. I like to stick it to the man every chance I get. I've always paved my own path in life and it's led me to some amazing experiences, as well as some not-so-great moments.
Expressing free will is an essential human necessity. What gives life meaning is the fact that we have choices in what we do, think, say.. The advent of the world wide web has simultaneously made freedom of expression immensely easier and vastly more complicated.

Net Neutrality has been a hotly debated topic in the battle among users, the FCC, and ISPs. I am a firm advocate for net neutrality and think there definitely should be legislation restricting ISPs from discriminating against different demographics of web-based users, content or information.
That being said, I fear that the lawlessness of the wild wild web is starting to foster a growing number of disturbing, and ultimately dangerous behavior patterns especially among the younger generations. I feel that we, as a whole, have become ultra-desensitized to appalling and heinous acts through a barrage of instantly available information that wasn't possible just a few decades ago.
This mind melt towards twisted and exploitative images, comments, data that saturate our news feeds daily only seems to perpetuate the problem.. the "Look the other way" mentality that the social consciousness has taken towards the vulgar or morally wrong only serves to create a festering environment for twisted realities to spread and corrupt.

Indeed it is like a drug.. after being exposed to small levels of depravity, you might find yourself high off adrenaline. After a while a bit of blood, foul language, some nudity doesn't do it anymore.. like Fight Club, you might look for more and more of what society brands as Moral Turpitude.. just to feel.. something.
There are dark corners of the web, and those who don't want part of it stay away, and that's fine.. except when such coteries creep out into the public domain with criminal intent.
What do I mean by all of this, and why am I, a self-proclaimed staunch defender of free rights, suddenly seriously pondering the meritoriousness of internet regulation?

It all has to do with a disturbing trend of news reports unfolding this year with a common theme..
