Aug 12th 2017  |.... But electrification has thrown the car industry into  turmoil. Its best brands are founded on their engineering  heritage—especially in Germany. Compared with existing vehicles,  electric cars are much simpler and have fewer parts; they are more like  computers on wheels. That means they need fewer people to assemble them  and fewer subsidiary systems from specialist suppliers. Carworkers at  factories that do not make electric cars are worried that they could be  for the chop. With less to go wrong, the market for maintenance and  spare parts will shrink. While today’s carmakers grapple with their  costly legacy of old factories and swollen workforces, new entrants will  be unencumbered. Premium brands may be able to stand out through  styling and handling, but low-margin, mass-market carmakers will have to  compete chiefly on cost.  Assuming, of course, that  people want to own cars at all. Electric propulsion, along with  ride-hailing and self-driving technology, could mean that ownership is  largely replaced by “transport as a service”, in which fleets of cars  offer rides on demand. On the most extreme estimates, that could shrink  the industry by as much as 90%. Lots of shared, self-driving electric  cars would let cities replace car parks (up to 24% of the area in some  places) with new housing, and let people commute from far away as they  sleep—suburbanisation in reverse....  Because nobody wants to be left with useless oil in the ground, there  will be a dearth of new investment, especially in new, high-cost areas  such as the Arctic. By contrast, producers such as Saudi Arabia, with  vast reserves that can be tapped cheaply, will be under pressure to get  pumping before it is too late...   When volumes fall, the adjustment will be fraught, particularly where  the struggle for power has long been about controlling oil wealth.....

An electric vehicle held the vehicular land speed record until around 1900....  The invention of the first model electric vehicle is attributed to various people.[2] In 1828, Ányos Jedlik, a Hungarian who invented an early type of electric motor, created a small model car powered by his new motor. In 1834, Vermont blacksmith Thomas Davenport built a similar contraption which operated on a short, circular, electrified track.[3] In 1834, Professor Sibrandus Stratingh of Groningen, the Netherlands and his assistant Christopher Becker created a small-scale electrical car, powered by non-rechargeable primary cells.[4] WIKIPEDIA

EARTH CUSTODIANS COMMENT: As you will see below, the electric car was already highly popular in the 50's, but profiteers killed it because the sale of auto-parts were more lucrative and they saw also huge profits from an oil driven monopoly. We have been had for decades. And now the same profiteers have figured out more schemes for electric cars, which are for sure better for the environment but will leave the consumer frustrated on many levels as we are moving into an era of a total Matrix-grid control. Control has always been the first goal, and money is (and has always been) the tool to achieve just that.

Who  Killed the Electric Car? is a 2006 documentary film that explores the  creation, limited commercialization, and subsequent destruction of the  battery electric vehicle in the United States, specifically the General  Motors EV1 of the mid-1990s. (wikipedia)

Killing the Electric:  Did General Motors deliberately sabotage the marketing of electric cars  because they threatened the motor industry? That's the allegation made  in a controversial new documentary.   Ten years ago, GM unveiled the EV1 -- the first electric car for the  mass market. "The EV1 was really special because it was cool and fast  and fun to drive," states former GM marketer Chelsea Sexton. "These cars  were so good, they would challenge the status quo of the oil industry."  But despite their popularity among owners, GM quickly pulled the plug  on its new product. It claims there was simply no mass market. "You  could only go 100 miles before you had to recharge it so had to adapt  your lifestyle to meet the needs of the vehicle," states spokesman Dave Barthmuss 

THE MOVE TO DRIVER-LESS CARS

EARTH CUSTODIANS COMMENT: Smart technology makes many people excited and raving about it but since society hasn't resolved its pyramidal power structure at all,  just wait for darker side effects now.  While we might be happy that car chases will soon be a thing of the past, just be careful what you wish for: don't make your payments we'll shut your car off, don't pay a traffic ticket, we'll shut you off.... you have not been chipped, you wont be able to use a driverless vehicle... Who knows what else?  

What lies ahead is a real smart prison.  That is what happens when societies have not chosen Freedom as a premise but spend their time moving from one compromise to the next. We could have had electric cars since the mid 90s already. The electric car revolution already happened 70 years ago, yet we are being told that it is going to revolutionize society. People who think that the shift out of the petro-dollar can be done smoothly are not seeing the big picture, there will be serious shocks to the system because the lie has been going on for much too long.
