Alcoholism: The First Triple Digit Sobriety Post And Thoughts About Changing The World Through Steemit.

in #sobriety7 years ago (edited)

Day 102 of Sobriety! Two days past 100 days. Over halfway to 200! There are still days the pinching happens to make sure this is real.

It's finally becoming a lot easier to get through the days. There are many days that beer doesn't even cross the mind. What a change from even a month ago.

It is funny how old habits die hard, though. The other day I went to the store. My mind must have been somewhere else, because before I knew it I was standing in the beer cooler!

I knew something was off, but I had to get my mind wrapped around where exactly I was at. It felt like I was in an episode of the Twilight Zone. When I realized where I was at, all I could do is laugh.

I mean there I was...standing in the Beer Cave, right in front of my favorite beer. But I had no intention of buying beer, nor did I want it. I had done my old routine of walking to the back of the store and into the beer cave.

When I exited the beer cave and went up to the checkout counter to buy a pack of smokes, the guy who always helps me said,"Why don't I see you anymore? Why no beer?". It was an awesome feeling to tell him I had been sober for over three months!

He just gave me the weirdest look of like,"Dude, you were just in the Beer Cave".

There are other things I still do that I use to do when I was drinking. For example, I will open up the fridge and reach for the bottom drawer to grab a beer out. I have to stand there and think to myself, "What are you looking for down here?". Then I realize what I am doing.

Other times I will go to twist the lid off a can of pop. One day I almost cut off my finger because I got it jammed in the mouth of a can from trying to twist it open after I had already opened it! I use to always put my lid back on my bottle of beer after I had taken a drink to keep it colder longer.

Instead of drinking and being destructive; these days I am getting up early and trying to figure out ways to help the world.

The current project I am working on is #OperationMosquito. Currently it involves working with a fellow Steemian in Nigeria that will try different mosquito repelling products and plants to see what works. Additionally, the Steemian is going to try natural herbs to help prevent and aid in the side effects of Malaria. Once we figure out what works then hopefully we can start sending these packages all over Nigeria. Training on how to use the herbs and products will be the crucial part.

A post will be out tomorrow(Friday) explaining the project more.

There will also be some Veterans related projects coming down the pike. Tons of brainstorming happening on those now. A Steemit related Tiny House Community for Homeless and PTSD Veterans with gardening and blogging as therapeutic tools is the ultimate goal. This will be a HUGE project, but if we don't shoot for the stars, how will we ever land on the moon?

I could keep going on and on about the thoughts for the projects but I want to see them put into action.

Actions prove who someone is, words just prove who they want to be -Unknown

The sobriety blog posts will continue as it's very therapeutic for my recovery. They may not be as frequent because of the time it will take to devote to other projects.

I've spent years being destructive, now I want to spend the time I have left on this earth being productive for my fellow humanoids.

Here's To the First 102 days of the rest of my life!

I mostly story post about my sobriety, family, effects of war, and the crazier parts of my life. However, if it interests me I may just Steem about it! Steem on Steemians!

I pray that you get multiples of strength to stay away from alcohol and then motivate others! We are not habits but controller of them. I always see at my habit and think "Do I control it or it controls me?" If it controls me then action starts to take the control back. It's all about the control my friend "Who is the boss? Me or the habit?" Please look at the smoking next!

I will be looking at smoking next. It's on the list.

Thanks for your advice and the prayers. It is really appreciated.

You are very welcome my dear friend :))

Congrats you;ll also you may slow down on cigs also, as smoking and drinking to chill normally go hand in hand and you end up smoking more.
You have taken on some great projects they sound really interesting.
Have been whinging about why governments can't go and build tiny or hemp homes for the homeless for a little while.
Realizing only a little while ago that the only way to actually solve homelessness is community's people helping each other like they do in deep traditional country's.
Congrats on finding an out let!

I agree on the smokes 100%. It will be the next thing to go. I told myself when I quit drinking that once I got to 100 days it will be time to work on the smokes. The day is coming very soon. I am sure I will be blogging on the struggles with that. They may be videos because I may not be able to blog during that time. The last time I quit smoking I was seriously sick for a little while. But this time I will power through it.

The tiny house project is something I think I can accomplish here. We don't have building codes in the county I live in. We are right in between two major cities, Nashville and Knoxville, that have many homeless veterans. This is a project that will require a legit business plan and some funding. I have some ideas for the funding part.

OperationMosquito took a huge step forward today. Was able to figure out how to use the Nigerian e-commerce site Jumia with a U.S. based bank card(BitPay) to send a package. Now, we are in a 7 day waiting period to make sure delivery happens. This will help save a lot of money on shipping charges. There will still be some items we need still need to ship from Amazon. Will have that list out sometime tomorrow.

Ok, so I am writing a book now. Yes, things are finally coming together. And I can honestly say it's because I quit drinking. Thanks for your comment and support.

Have you heard of vaping Lex? It's still 'smoking', but you get to reduce your exposure to all the other bad chemicals in cigs..I'm no expert, but a couple of people I know have switched to vaping and found it to be much better for them...you could look into it whenever you have a free moment :)

Yes, I've actually vaped before and got tired of having to replace coils, go to a special store to buy liquid, or running out of battery. Not to mention the taste is awful. Don't worry the day of stopping cigarettes is coming. It's just right around the corner. One habit a time is what my mother always says. This one will be coming to an end.

Vaping can be worse for some smokers, some have said that the intake is much more than a cig, and makes them have heart pains, grumpy mood swings, head aches, for them they found going back to cigs and just limiting the amount to be better to ease off. Everyone is different.

There are different Nicotine levels for vaping. Can be hard to figure out in comparison what one smokes a day in regular cigarettes. However, if one could figure out a happy medium and start working their nicotine levels down as far as % in the liquid, it could be very helpful to quit altogether.

I may go cold turkey and be a sick mamo jamma for a week or may use patches, haven't decided yet. But the day is coming.

Thanks for bringing up that point..it's possibly quite true..My friend shared with me that he could control the nicotine amount through vaping though..perhaps different vaping devices work differently..I personally have no experience in this one!

I see...had no idea there was so much maintenance to do for vaping :)) Regarding the awful taste, is there no option to add a 'flavour' into the mix?

hehe really proud of you for carefully planning out and going through this attack strategy on all your unwanted habits :)

As you can tell from this super late reply, I have been very busy. Yes, there is an option to add flavors to your vap. There are even stores with "tasting bars" to find your flavor.

haha tasting vap bars! That's hilarious! I think you've been 'Good Busy' though, so I'm happy for you!! I've kinda been down (physically) and out for a bit..trying to do some catch up now..

I respect you and believe in you.
Love truly equally as one.
Stay steemy.

Thank you @seanfisher. Words like these really help help to keep my spirits up.

Good on you, and good luck with the projects! :)

Yoohoo!! What a breakthrough to not want to get a beer while standing in the Beer Cave!! I LOL-ed at the GIF representing the cashier guy :))

I look forward to the rest of your life, 102-day-old Baby Lex! :)
