Freezing in Cape Town We even Made a Snowman- Ulog#4
Hey Steemians,
I hope you all having an awesome Sunday and making the most of it before we habe to hit the grind tomorrow!!
Despite Spring being less than 6 days away, Winter is in full swing in the Mother City! We generally experience quite a bit of rain in winter and sometimes a hail storm or two, but snow is not something we see in Cape Town. South Africa is literally on the bottom most tip of Africa and the city of Cape Town is right on its sothern most tip! So general climates here do not bring any snow to the city.
The forecast today is 12 degrees celcius and raining on and off with bursts of Sun. We did a small walk this morning and i chose tge lighter route due to the excess baggage! Some friends ventured all the way yo the top of Table Mountain, then to oneof tge famous viewpoints, Maclear's Beacon. And check out the little guy they found waiting for them on top!
Olaf himself!! How cool is that!! Lets hope this little guy doesnt find out what it's like to be a snowman in spring, just yet!!

@mimismartypants A great post! Your Olaf looks a bit skinny but he's very cool, excuse the pun. Fantastic scenery and we share your cold. In fact we are a bit worse off with regards to the cold, but at least we don't have snow in the Overberg! Blessings!
Lol let's hope Olaf is still alive!! Im sure if there was more snow he would be nice and plump!! But it's a miracle in its own right that there was any snow at all!!

Feeling the cold up in JHB today!
Super jealous of your walks up the mountains though...you guys are so lucky to have that on your doorstep.
But you guys generally have really cold winters right? Or has the pattern changed during recent years?
You guys have aome beautiful walks close by as well! I really want to visit magaliesberg soon!! Oh and the drakensberg as well!! I suppose its a bit of a drive though. But then again going anywhere in jozi is a bit of a drive hey! Lol(low blow, im sorry)

Winters in Jozi are freezing...we don't have the winter rain though. I am actually a Durban boy so never had a winter for the first 30 odd years of my life :)
Yes, everything is a drive in JHB. The Drakensberg is a 3 / 4 hour drive depending on where you are going.
So you uaed to the tropical weather!! The cold must kill you!! And so much cooler scenery in Durban!! How are you surviving the no ocean in jozi?? I tjink i would have withdrawal if i move! No mountains close by and no ocean!!

Hmmm...not being near the sea is hard. We still have family in Durban so we try to visit regularly. However, our rewards for moving to JHB have been having a wife that is there more for our kids than if we had stayed in Durban.
There is that!! And what better way to raise your kids than having there mom be around for them. Until they teenagers of course! Then they dont wanna hang out with mom no more!!!

We never actually have snow here. This is quite strange for us! I suppose climate change is real!

oh yes! we feel the change here.. it has been getting hotter each time.. and we are afraid of heavy rains because we get flooded easily now as it was before.
its pretty scary how the sudden change in our weather.
Shoo and im complainong about the cold!! Floods are way scarier but we have also been getting more of that in different parts of the country!! It's of course a worldwide effect! Stay safell

Hahaha i would not trade snow for ours too.. im not used to it, i might froze.. i dont even know how cold feels in your side..
But my sister said its horrible! She just migrated to Texas. It took her a year to adjust to the climate there.

Stunning scenery, and that Snow Man is amazing how would you even believe it - very cool little fern arms too. So funny your friends found him waiting at the very top!
Those mountains in the second photo a just to die for, what a breathtaking view. Would it be a very long climb to get to a point to see something like that?

Lol sooo funny indeed! After huffing and puffing and practically running to the top, They training for a hectic trail race they find this cool little guy waiting for them!!
To be honest the views are great from all angles. And there are awesome viewpoints at different levels. It really depends on your speed and fitness. You get great views after a half hour and they just keep getting better!! But im not exaggerating when i say there is always something beautiful to take on on these hikes. At any given time you can look up and think wow!! We are truly blessed!! It often makes me think that with so much beauty, how can I not believe that their is a higher power!!
But forgive me, I digress, the short answer is, not too long at all!! 😊

I hope the freezing weather is not coming up North, I don't like the winter, looking forward to the summer!! Nice snowman!!
Can you believe it. Its only on the mountain now but believe me when i tell you we feeling the cold inside! Not normal for the Cape! Also, a good couple of weeks ago we woke up and the roads were covered in a thin layer of what looked like snow. Lots of hail but was melting slowly and looked like white snow sludge!

Pretty early arrival..we have still 3 months for the chill. Really loves all the images...rocky mountains apart from the lovely snow baby.(it still need to grow up till winter arrived 😉)

Our winter is actually winding down!! This is tbe last official month of winter in the southern hemisphere!! In less than a week spring will start, and it should start to warm up slowly!
Thats snow baby is as big as his gonna get! We never get snow here!! Its very u usual, a miracle in fact!!
