Sndbox Summer Camp Quest 1 | Our Journey So Far

We hope everyone is well and had a great weekend!
We certainly did as Sam went on behalf of @travelling-two to @maverickfoo's 100Degrees event in Bangkok. His first ever Steemit meet-up outside Malaysia. It was very exciting and apart from meeting Steemians in real life, Sam also learnt a few new things. Thanks @maverickfoo for setting that all up with the help of Flo (don't know his Steemit username). We also got some filming done for a part of this @sndbox competition/quest to apply to their summer camp. If you would like to know more, please click here. Where do we begin?
One part of the quest is to do this post about 'Our Journey So Far', this is not limited to our time on Steemit, but even before. So where to begin?
Who Are We? Meet Samouth The Friendly Mammoth
Sam was born in Bangkok, Thailand to a British father and a Thai mother. Due to his father's job, he has had an international upbringing and spent most of his childhood and teenage years in two different countries (Vietnam and Italy), but often family vacation would take him to neighboring countries or even further afield. He grew up being exposed to both Asian and Western cultures and he quickly learnt and adapted to appreciate that everyone has their own culture. This is not bounded to countries, but societies and communities too. His love for travelling and seeing new places can be a curse as he truly feels like he doesn't belong to one place, but to many. He would like to call a place 'home', but often gets itchy feet after a few years. He just can't seem to settle. He is sure of it. There will come a time where he will settle, but on the conditions that he could easily get away and seek adventure! His life's journey has taken him to six out of the seven continents (missing Antarctica) and yes, he is counting being in Miami for a day as touching on North America. This passion to continue seeking new experiences through travel is shared by his girlfriend Becca. Moreover, she has made him more aware of the challenges our planet (Earth) faces and wants to combine these interests to become more than a career, but a purpose in our lives.
Who Are We? Meet 'JigglyPuff' Becca
Becca was born in a rural part of Portugal near the Spanish border to English parents. Her parents came out to Portugal to start a farming enterprise. From an early age, she was exposed to nature, animals and wildlife in general. In her childhood, there wasn't much time for travelling as her parents had to take care of the farm, but when they did, it was usually to England or somewhere else in Europe. Her first big trip outside Europe was to see her Dad when he was based out in Mozambique for work. She immediately fell in love with the African continent due to its diversity in nature and the natural environment. She has since been to a few African countries along the Eastern and Southern side including the island of Madagascar, where she is currently writing her Wild Wednesday's posts about. Her wide eyes (just like JigglyPuff) keeps her appealed for new adventure, especially since she has been based out here in Bangkok and she looks to explore more of the region (due to the visa runs every other month). She really wants to see South America and Central America, especially Brazil, Galapagos and Costa Rica for its biodiversity and culture. We know we'll get there, it just takes time and patience.
How We Got Onto Steemit? The Long Way Round
Ever since we started dating back in April 2015, we have been to Rome, Edinburgh, Paris, Morocco, Inter railing around Central Europe (Hungary, Czech, Slovakia, Austria, Germany, The Netherlands and Belgium), Cambodia, Malaysia, places around England, Portugal and Thailand. We always wanted to start a blog, but we were too scared and not fully committed. We thought (which we realised wasn't the way to think now) that paying for a WordPress website to write our travel content to get no views or interaction would be pointless. This was two years ago. Our mentalities have changed as we should have started it for our own memories. The reasons for not starting could be since we weren't even together for a year and we had only done two or three trips together, we didn't know if our relationship would last and so we thought the blog would end up being pointless. It's true, no one knows the future and our relationship could fall apart and/or this Steemit blog could end up being pointless too, but at least we got to do it and try one of our New Year's resolutions from 2016.
How We REALLY Got Onto Steemit? Welcome To The Crypto World
Sam has known about Bitcoin since its first soar in early 2014 as this was the same time he got into online trading. However, it wasn't something he really understood (even now he doesn't) or considered as a real investment.
Fast forward, to November last year (2017) when Sam's brother, Tim, told him that he was looking into investing a small percentage of his savings into Bitcoin as he saw the wave of popularity as well as believing in a decentralized system. Since Sam knew about Bitcoin before and saw it's recent rise too, he decided to hop on board! Once he got his Bitcoin, he did not know how to spread his new investments, so he looked through YouTube and found a 'decent' looking 'expert' who had an investors' Facebook group and so, Sam joined. Through the roller coaster of the crypto world, Sam dabbled in some trading, but ultimately was HODL-ing his Bitcoin and newly purchased Altcoins. One day, one user on Facebook asked if there were ways to make/earn crypto and someone mentioned 'Steemit'. We have to thank that user as if it wasn't for him, we wouldn't be here. That Facebook group has since disbanded as there ended up being too many referral links to Ponzi schemes and promoting ICOs that were legitimately after your money. Unfortunately, the negative side of crypto!
This Is Us
This is who we are: a fun and loving couple blogging about our life experiences through our passion of travelling, creating/eating food and actively trying to promote the cause to save our home planet - Earth. Steemit is not only a place to blog what we want to write, but a place to meet new and inspiring people. And maybe, just maybe we can influence and inspire some Steemians on here. The future looks bright as we continue to create new friendships and communities.

You should get out on the road again and as they say 'broaden your horizon and mind'. We mean it in the best of ways as we can see one can take it as an offence. 'Are you saying I'm dumb?!' Nope, we mean finding new connections and experiences in life to promote, as you do, positivity!

So far in my life I've done a big trip every ten years! So due my third one in a few years! I am looking forward to it, it get hard as you get older but I miss it so much! Keep the great content coming 💯🐒
You're due for a big trip soon! Every thought of doing smaller trips more frequently or is that just not you or even not feasible for you?
Sam's parents know the feeling you're getting as now they have the money to travel, but not the energy whereas it's the opposite for us. Lots of energy and curiosity to travel, but money is limited. There are always around this, but we like to travel comfortably. Not too cheap (but it depends on the circumstances), but we don't need a villa on a private island either (although, that would be nice).
We'll keep on doing what we've always done and it's great to have your support!

A bit of both not had the money to do short trips done a few. work a good job now so have the money but difficult finding the time. I have plans to do a trip round UK visiting Steemer's. But have to arrange this, not put it out there yet!
I like the basic accommodation style but your right need to get on it. And I have plans so it will happen! You doing a great job happy to show my support! 💯🐒
Ah yes, we know about that too. Sam had a good job in London prior to coming to Thailand, but he had restricted time to use these holidays. It was part of the job and business operations.
We would encourage you to take that road trip around the UK and visit some Steemians!
