The Train Cemetery In Krakow - Steemfest 3

01 Krakow Train Cemetery DSC09483.jpg

Sunday was the final day of SteemFest 3, and before participating in the final official event (a visit to the Salt Mines), I met up with @guchtere and @goodwithtravels in the morning to do some urban exploration. Before arriving in the city, I'd researched abandoned places... and choice among them was the Train Cemetery.

If you look at a map of the train cemetery, it looks as though it's been split in two. On one side, there are several tracks, where old trains are simply kept outside. On the other side, there's a roundhouse where train engines used to be stored, complete with a turntable. We didn't have time for both, so decided to visit the roundhouse, because of the interesting architecture. It also seemed the smaller area, and would be easier to cover.

Upon arriving, the three of us scattered out to do our own things. I opted to start by flying my drone near the roundhouse, to catch some of the beautiful morning light, shining through the mist. (I later learned to my great frustration, that the video was corrupted; it would have been great!)

Next, I headed towards the old wagons and engines, climbing into the conductor wagon, where coal was shoveled into the oven. It was awesome to photograph these antiquated vehicles, marked by the passage of time in their peeling paint and rust, and makes you realize how nearly nothing is built for eternity... but everything sticks around longer than it should.

These pictures are marvellous! Have you seen these, @slobberchops - a bit of urbex?

When we were there I remembered that @slobberchops is also into urbex ... felt guilty for not asking!

I sense Stalker vibes from that place, definitely have to go there when I'll be in Kraków next time

Oh wow, that last one is absolutely the best of them all ! I guess that's why u put it there right? :D

Man, next year I cant do the same mistake and leave after one day and actually not even attend:D wondering when will the Krakow posts torture end hahaha :D I've seen so many post I'm pretty sure the guy in short ich @guchtere and I actually never even talked with him hah :D

🤣 You can never guess anymore!! What fact did give it away I was there? 😈
But you're right, next year you can't leave after one day. We need to talk!

The last picture is last because I think it is one of the last pictures @for91days took before we left the cemetery. We came across this while entering the terrain and by leaving it.

Hah I know you were there cuz I was closely following @mrprofessor as he didn't have an official ticket as well soo I hoped to team up with him ahha :D And I saw you pick him up :) wondering why is my comment as the 2nd level comment under someone else's comment haha :D I was probably tired yesterday :D

We must have walked by @guchtere when we walked straight to he bar :) Thank you for the compliment on that picture but it was actually one of the first pictures we took when we approached the cemetery :)

Hah, well that explains it :D When walking straight to the bar, noone is concerned about the faces around :D In those moments, there's just one important thing - beer :D

Haha. Well there will be other opportunities to meet @guchtere, he's a great guy. Are you in touch with @mrprofessor?

He dumped me :((( Said he's going in the direction south and warmer weather rather than middle of the Alps here in Innsbruck :D Makes complete sense to me tho. We talked couple of days back when he was in Slovakia. I advised him to buy a special slovakian cheese soo I hope he did as there's no other place in the world to get it. Haven't talked to him since tho, will probably write him later todday. You?

You are trying to take me and my tent to the Alps, gotta be crazy dude! hahahahahaha, I'll gladly join you in the spring/summer though!

and probably shorts because you recognized me at those 🤣

It is a bit creepy though, because some of the wagons show signs of people living there!

I cannot believe such a place exist!... It is so sad to see the engines rust and be abandoned like this. I am more than sure they would have found a home in one of the museums around the globe. So sad...

There were so many trains... Maybe they think they have some kind of use for it in the future.

You really got some incredible shots of those old trains. I love to see discarded technologies such as this. I wonder at what point the owners forgot about their equipment, or they decided it was less expensive to let it rot than it was to sell it for parts or scrap metal.

And that other area had so many trains just sitting there. Need to explore that one when back in Krakow.

Definitely! Do you get over that way often? I've never been.

Not at all. This was my first time BUT I want to go back there badly, maybe for a For91days!

Ooooh, that is a great idea. I love that you travel for 91 days at a time. How did you settle on that number?

When we started out we decided that visiting 4 locations a year seemed about right. So 365 divided by 4 = 91.25 :) And it works out with visas (3 month visas :) )

I like that math. Do you ever go home? I also travel a great deal. I think I spend about as much time elsewhere as I do at home. :-)

We slowed down now but we're aiming to do 2 For91days a year plus family and friend visits we're not too often home.

That would be so awesome to meet you and have you as our guide. We already did two spots in the US, Savannah and Idaho. If you're curious check those blogs out on our wordpress page. There is so much to see in the US, I'm sure we will be back soon. But anyways, we're at least once a year in Ohio, since Mike's family is living there.
