WHAT YOU WEREN'T TOLD ABOUT ENTERPRENEURSHIP

People make entrepreneurship look all rosy and nice and blissful. After all, the richest people today are entrepreneurs.
You hear people scream:
"Fire your boss!"
"Take control of your life."
"You don't have to wake up to an alarm clock."
"Achieve time freedom!"
"Spend more time with your family."
"Do the things you love."
"Monetize your passion."
.
.
What you don't hear them say is:
"Your business becomes your new boss"
"You don't need an alarm clock because you won't be sleeping anyway"
"You want time freedom? Be ready to work 100-hour weeks for a long time first."
"Work-life balance is almost impossible to achieve especially when you're just starting out."
"You will do the things you love only if you make it past the long winter and famine and drought."
"Your passion may not always be monetizable. I mean, I have a passion for sleeping."
.
.
.
So you want to be an entrepreneur? Let me tell you the hard truth:
You will suffer.
You will be lonely.
No one will understand you. They will call you delusional.
Moments of doubt will come.
You will feel like giving up almost everyday.
You will be broke; So broke you'll begin to question your own sanity.
You will miss the days when you had an alarm clock, because at least you slept then.
.
.
But if you do this one thing, that is to SHOW UP EVERYDAY:
You will begin to see the sliver of light at the end of the tunnel.
Your hope will rise with each warm ray of sun that pierces through the cold darkness of a seemingly endless night.
You will gain clarity. With clarity comes confidence, with confidence comes clear communication, with communication comes client/customer commitment and with that commitment comes the consistent inflow of income.
You will blow.
.
.
I'm not trying to scare you away from entrepreneurship. If that is your path, by all means tread it.
However, take off your rose-coloured glasses and brace yourself because winter will come and the nights will be dark and full of terror...(I need to lay off Game of Thrones for a while ).
What I'm saying is, the darkness and the famine and the drought will come, but STAY.
Show up every single day. Eventually, eventually, it will all get better and better and better.
Remember, the key is to SHOW UP EVERY SINGLE DAY, even on the days when you don't feel like it.
This is the single most important thing that separates those who fail from those who eventually succeed.

Sort:

No good thing comes easy. It's important to know that this hard time trains us to be able to properly handle what is to come...no one in his right senses would go about spending wastefully when he knows he toiled so hard to get it.

You summed it up in a terrific way, that's exactly how I feel about it too, but as I enjoy hard working and prefer 100-hours weeks, I have no problem with it; people should just be ready for that ; but I'm more in-between, wanna work for some start-up or ICO in the cryptoworld so that I am actually building something new and innovative without doing it all from zero by myself, with an organization that is already a bit set up, so I guess for me the real solution is to be neither too dependent on yourself nor too dependent on a "traditional" company with a boss; that's why I'm aiming at a start-up or ICO, that could be the right compromise, as it allows a bit more freedom than "doing it all by yourself from zero" like all entrepreneurs do ; I think I have summed it up well

Not all people have this choice my friend. Especially in this part of the world. Nigeria

I agree with you el-morenza, I know there are places where you don't have the choice. You have to keep being positive and the faith in yourself whatever happens.

You have done well!

This is a bit too mean for wanna be entrepreneur. Anyway thanks for the information

Lol.. That is the reality sir. Thanks for your comment.

THIS POST IS SUPERB.
