St. Patrick’s Day: An avenue to drink more?
Brace Yourself Alcoholic! Saint Patrick’s Day is just around the corner...
Honestly, I was introduced to this event about 5 years ago and at that time I was way more than the minimum legal drinking age. I am not aware or unconsciously ignore about this event possibly the fact that I don’t have a regular watering hole and only drink occasionally (<5 times a year).
What is Saint Patrick's Day?
According to Wikipedia
Saint Patrick's Day, or the Feast of Saint Patrick (Irish: Lá Fhéile Pádraig, "the Day of the Festival of Patrick"), is a cultural and religious celebration held on 17 March, the traditional death date of Saint Patrick (c. AD 385–461), the foremost patron saint of Ireland.
I guess the day is only celebrated with meaning in Ireland, some parts of Canada and Irish around the world. Growing up as a Catholic and went to missionary school, didn’t exposed me to this much celebrated saint. As the ones that I am familiar with are seated at the table with Jesus during the Last Supper. As March has always been the Lenten season for Christians, I might have a word with the parish priest whether our abstinence was to be lifted for the day. Somehow I feel like it's just like Christmas, where the celebration is mistreated and become too commercialized. A good excuse for more alcohol consumption to some.
