Which one to buy, the moto G5s versus his younger brother the moto G6

in #smartphone6 years ago

In this comparison, two smartphones were chosen to see which one meets the requirements the most and has the best advantages. The minimum requirements are the following:

  • Smartphones under 250 euros
  • A camera with at least 5 megapixels
  • Decent screen size
  • CPU that can handle around five applications at the same time
  • A minimum battery capacity of 1500 mAh
  • 4G and AC wifi connectivity for fast internet

Two phones meet these requirements, the moto G5s and moto G6 are both smartphones produced by Motorola. These smartphones are designed by the same manufacturer so they have a lot of things in common. The moto G6 is a more recent model but is also more expensive than the moto G5s.

Looks and screen

First of all there is not much of a difference in dimensions of the screen and body. The moto G6 has a slightly bigger screen at 5.7 inches in comparison with the 5.2 inch screen of the moto G5s. Both screens feature a pixel density of 424 pixels per inch. The display of the G6 has the new 18:9 aspect ratio which makes the phone less fat and easier to handle than the G5s. If the smartphones are turned around, there is some of a design difference. The G5s has a matte metallic finish with an aluminium frame and rounded edges while the G6 has a glossy glass design with the back of the phone in cornering Gorilla Glass 3 which is also pretty rugged. To protect the glass back from the G6, there is a protective cover included in the box. Both phones are splash resistant and feature a fingerprint scanner on the front.

Operating system

The G5s and G6 both rock android but in the case of the G5s, it is still rocking Android Nougat 7.1 whereas the G6 you get Android Oreo 8.0. It is to expect that the G5s will soon get an update to Android Oreo 8.0 as well. One of the extra’s you will get when you buy the G6 is the security feature to unlock your smartphone with your face, just like the iPhone X. To unlock your phone, all you got to do is tap the power button and look at your screen, very easy and fast.

Hardware specifications

With a 1,8 GHz octa-core Snapdragon 450 the Moto G6 is a little slower than the octa-core 2 GHz G5S with its 625-Snapdragon chipset. In addition, a Moto G6 is limited to 3 GB RAM while the Moto G5S is equipped with 4 GB RAM. The Moto G5S will perform better with its more powerful CPU. When we look at the memory, the G5S can be configured with a 32 GB or 64 GB internal memory. The Moto G6 doesn’t provide this extensive range and has only a 32 GB version. Both models are equipped with a microSD card slot so the memory can be expanded. Notice that the G6 is only expandable with a 128 GB, while the G5S Plus can go up to 256 GB. The G5S and G6 both feature 4G and AC wifi connectivity for fast downloading and internet browsing.

Camera and battery

Both phones are equipped with a 3000 mAh battery cell. You can expect over a day of battery life while using the phone intensively. The G5S has the extra feature of turbo charging which can be useful if you need the phone when it almost runs out of battery. Both of these phones have dual-lens cameras on the back. This gives users the ability to zoom twice as far with no loss of image quality. When the cameras of both phones are compared, the Moto G5S is much stronger in the field of specifications. With its dual-13MP camera the unit offers optimal picture quality. However, the G6 with a dual-camera consisting of only a 5 MP and 12 MP camera gives a better result in the dark, because more light can hit the lens. G5S has the possibility of filming in 4K, the G6 instead is limited to a lower quality. Furthermore, both phones are equipped with an 8 MP front camera to take the ultimate selfie. The G6 has a special feature for the camera, the object recognition feature, that’s scans whatever you pointing the lens at and tries to identify it. When it’s recognized, the phones gives you shopping links, links of Wikipedia, etc. But this feature doesn’t always work as it should.

Conclusion

From the minimum requirements that are given in the description of the assignment we can conclude that the moto G5S is the best option to buy. The Motorola Moto G5s is cheaper, faster and has slightly better specifications. The operating system is a little older, but it will get an update to the latest version soon. On the other hand the moto G6 is a very good alternative. It also fulfils the minimum requirements and has a larger screen but is more expensive because it is newer.
