I googled it but I couldn't find any mention of a private key. I checked my app and there are not even settings or anything to open anything. Does this key only exists in the beginning when you scan the websites QR code for the authenticator?
Hey @flauwy! We think it shows up at the beginning but it’s hard to remember. There wasn’t much info. If you have it linked to a gmail email supposedly you can access the key through there. We unfortunately didn’t have the email hooked up :(

Not too happy to hear about Google Authenticator locking you out though... It's a bit annoying that for every different account that you have on it, you have to have a separate backup code saved somewhere. Just like private keys in crypto, you then have to worry about storing those securely.
I split my backup codes onto 2 pieces of physical paper that I then keep in 2 separate locations, away from my phone/computer. It's tedious to set up, but it's secure and provides peace of mind.

If you have a google email then you have a google account. You are able to reset google authenticator from there. I have done this several times.
The google authenticator wasn’t linked to the email. Due to it not being hooked up to the email we have no way to get in :(

I do not use google authenticator anymore
I have authy because it syncs if you have 2 versions, ie I have a tablet and phone and if I put another code, it autoupdates on my other device
check it out if you want, i like it better then google authenticator

Isn’t there a way to recover a lost authenticator? What happens when you loose the phone? Sounds like a reliability rather security.
I got pretty much all-in on SmartCash. The community aspect of it convinced me eventually! It is so much more fun than most of the other coins.
