Filling a Sketchbook with Faces
Ink on Paper, 19 May 2019
This is a brand new sketchbook that I bought a few days ago and I wasn't very impressed with the paper quality so I chucked it aside thinking I would just use it for quick sketches that you sometimes do when an idea pops into mind.
Anyhoo, I started this drawing this morning, it was nothing elaborate because I just wanted to get a feel for the proportions and shape, but as the day progressed and with all my adding and subtracting, this lovely face started to emerge from the page.
I had only intended to nut out a few rough sketches of head 'shapes' but I was impressed with how it was looking so I decided to keep working on it. First, I traced over my pencil lines with black pen and then I kept adding little details here and there until it felt 'finished'.
It also became a perfect opportunity to test out a set of recently purchased Pitt Pens with brush nibs which were used for her skin, hair, eyes and lips, while I used a purple acrylic ink wash for the background.
This picture will remain in my art journal, however, I'm going to replace this sketchbook asap just in-case I manage to draw even one diamond among any future 'rough' sketches (lolz)
