Ice Skating a Huge Rink With Dozens of Lanes [Week Five of Six Week Health Challenge]
For todays activity you don't need much equipment, just skates and of course ice :)
The Vienna Ice Dream is one of a kind as you will experience in a jiffy.
The last time I was ice skating eight years ago, but once you get a hang of it you don't forget the skill anymore, it's just like with riding a bicycle. Of course activities like longboarding, snowboarding and roller blading with its simmilar movement patterns help maintain a basic proficiency.
I demanded a specific brand and the guy at the rental gave me the last pair in my size, he was reluctant at first because of the color but I told him what do I care as long as they are Bauers :)
Let the sliding begin, woops little wobly on my feet and quite a crowd!
This place is huge, it got bigger every year.
I can give you just a slight excerpt of the vastness of this skating ground, it occupies half the town hall park. Can you catch a glimpse of me at the next animation? :)
Lanes everywhere, basic knowledge of the road traffic regulation is almost mandatory.
It's too much fun to build up speed on this endless lanes, but for you guys I made an exception and slowed down a little.
A gigantic snow ball follows next.
I could go on for hours on the ice, which I actually did, and admire the town hall on the side, but bodily needs called for a break.
So I headed to the cosy cabin amidst the city, where I had an unusual but nice view.
You'd expect rather ski slopes than the Vienna Burgtheater.
Before anybody says something, beer is an excellent electrolyte and just one is ok, also it is illegal to operate any vehicle with more than .05% alcohol in Austria :)
A little break for digestion ...
... before heading to the speed lane with 3% inclination.
Near the end I want to show you how branched the lanes were, it was so much fun, every time a new path, I remember in the old days just going around with an occasional switch.
Didn't need you this time little guy :)
I would have loved to stay a little longer but
time to say good bye, everything beautiful comes to an end.
A big thank you @healthsquared and @sweetsssj, you guys motivate me to try new, or in this case old things again.
Until next time,
Miron
Still Christmas in Austria? No rivers running through Wien? (Or running too swiftly!)
No rivers in this part of the city ;) Or do you mean the rivers of melted snow?
I was curious whether it ever got cold enough for the Donau to freeze... (thinking of some of the Big Freezes the Thames has had - if not recently).
I don't know of lately but I remember as a child walking on the frozen Donau, but one had to be careful because near the bridges the ice melted.
