The New Apple Park: 175 Acre Apple Headquarters With Steve Jobs Theater

Modern day work places are supposed to bring out the best in the employees.
We've all read about companies that offer their employees recreational facilities, space for games or physical activity, high quality / free food and more.
This refers mostly to the large tech companies in Silicon Valley, and most "normal" people could only dream of a workspace with those features!

Now, Apple is about to finish building its huge new office complex in Cupertino, CA - the "Apple Park".

The construction for Apple's new 175 acre Campus began in 2013, and is supposed to be finished in April this year.
The main building itself is shaped like a ring, it's 2.8 million square foot big and features world's largest panels of curved glass.
Inside of the ring is a recreational park with meadows, a pond, walking and running paths, and thousands of trees that apple specifically grew in nursery gardens so that the park looks "finished" right from the start.

The new Apple Park will be the work place for 12,000 employees, which will move there within 6 months.

It will also feature some parts that are open to the public (an Apple Store and a Café), research and development facilities for employees, as well as a 100,000-square-foot-fitness center.

The highlight will be the 1,000 seat auditorium, which will be named Steve Jobs Theater in honor of the former CEO's work and his birthday (February 24).

The theater is located at one of the highest points of apple points, overlooking the main building and the park, and consists of a 20-foot-tall glass cylinder with a carbon-fiber roof.
Steve Jobs had actually proposed the Plans for Apple Park to the City of Cupertino in 2011.
It was his last public event before his death in October of 2011.

"Steve’s vision for Apple stretched far beyond his time with us. He intended Apple Park to be the home of innovation for generations to come. The workspaces and parklands are designed to inspire our team as well as benefit the environment. We’ve achieved one of the most energy-efficient buildings in the world and the campus will run entirely on renewable energy."

-Tim Cook, Apple CEO

Apple Park aims to be one of the most energy-efficient building complexes in the world.

It's powered by 100% renewable energy and features 17 Megawatts of rooftop solar power.
Also, it is naturally ventilated so that it doesn't require heating or air conditioning for 3/4 of the year.
The architects for this remarkable project are Foster+Partners, who also created the Wembley Stadium, the Millennium Bridge in London and more.

In other news, Google has just updated the plans for their huge new campus as well.

Named Charlston East, the building in mountain view california is supposed to be almost 600,000 square feet.
It's going to feature parks and food stalls that are open to the public, and the main building will have the ability to regulate the air quality, climate and noise level inside.
The building plans have not been approved yet, but once they are, the construction is planned to finish within 30 months.

Hmm, so this is where they'll design their overpriced garbage from now on. Cool!

the future is coming!

Nope. Future was yesterday. Precisely, January 3rd, 2009. ;)

no man i asked jesus

Definitely! And those comics are pretty awesome :)

Ugh an apple campus. Yuk

Ok, if it really is powered by 100% renewable energy, that is pretty cool indeed.

Yes I think so too, regardless of whether one likes Apple or not, it's a very innovate building

I remember seeing Steve Jobs present this to the Cupertino City Council, and all I could think was how sick he seemed. Didn't realize that turned out to be his last public appearance.

Yes, that was sadly his last public event.
It's crazy to think that he planned so much of this years ago, and it would have been amazing for him to see it come to life.

I guess Warren Buffet will get to visit soon enough

I'm sure he'll be impressed!

Likely and he'll likely get them selling lots of Coca cola if he can help it.
