So my car got broken into the other day...
To avoid the incident happening I shouldn't have stayed for adult gym, but then the kids wouldn't have gotten the things they got. And I think the only reason we caught him to to begin with was because I was actually in a hurry to leave, usually we all stand around chitchatting for 5-10mins before scattering to the four winds.

Why didn't you knock the guy out/beat him up?
I had every intention of disabling the guy and then calling the cops. But logic brain kicked in as I was approaching and gave him some warning ("OI!") and continued grappling with the rest of the brain which was still following through with the original plan when he completely failed to notice I was coming (I wasn't even being quiet). Eventually logic brain pointed out that because I was that mad, "disabling" could mean "submission pin" or it could mean "is going to end up with a concussion" or it could mean "all the limbs are broken possibly a few times", and I probably wouldn't remember at what point that happened, and I don't have time for the kind of trouble that could get me into.
Fortunately it was just my car. Had there been animals involved, that's worth getting into all that trouble for.

All good ^_^ Everyone else from adult gym was still there, the door had to be unlocked again as we kept running stuff in and out (dustpan and brush to clean up the window frame so that glass shards wouldn't fly everywhere, a towel to cover up the shattered window that was now in my car) so one was standing guard there, one had called the cops for me and then handed me her phone when they needed to talk to me, and the other two were trying to make the car as safe as they were going to get it in its current state to get me and the kids home, and also trying to clean up the glass (so much freaking glass!) that had fallen into the carpark. @gorc was all amped up and wanted to join me in pounding the guy, @pixietrix was stressed out by the entire incident and needed a relaxing bath when we got home. All of us took a while to come down and ended up having a late night but we had a cruisy day the following day aside from pixie's gymnastics class which was a late one. And I defiantly parked close to the same spot.
Why didn't your car alarm go off?
Good question. It went off when JJ went out to get the paperwork for insurance and to tell the window repairer he eventually called what make and model the car was, and he did pretty much exactly what the guy that broke in did (reached in through the window, unlock the door, open the door) sans breaking the window. JJ surmises that my car must not like him.
Is everything sorted now?
Car window has been fixed so I'm happy. There's an incident report but other than that I don't care about the guy. Unless I catch him again.

HOLY CRAP! Thank the universe you and the kids are alright! That, and not a lot of precious things were stolen. If I was in your shoes, I don't know if I would have the same restraint. Though, ever since I had a plus one for life, I've noticed me mellowing out a bit. It used to be that I would go medieval on the perp!
I'm glad everything was sorted out and the car got cleaned. I hope the thief steps on a nail and gets tetanus, but otherwise have an unremarkable life. Well, after he gets treated for rabies because a mangy dog bit his ass, but that's it.
Going medieval was my first instinct XD I have a berserker mode which I go out of my way to avoid triggering though XP Had I been your age I probably would have attacked first and thought later :S

I do, but I always snap at the vet. I don't know why. I just get all twitchy for no reason.

So sorry to hear this. I think you made the right choice. You can never really know what people will do in the wrong situation. To ehr on caution whenever you can is brightest. Still what a fuck face, people these days. I am so sorry you had to deal with that.
This is true, one of my friends that was there agrees with you, and said pretty much the same thing on the night while I was still cold-raging. I didn't look at the glass properly to try to work out where or how it had been smashed but he might have had something on him. I had a weapon too but weapon fights are kind of something one should really aspire to avoid XD
It just takes the wrong shove and then it is gravity that can be the unfortunate event. Had a friend of friend get pushed back in a fight. He hit his head the wrong way and went into a comma.

Yeh just a broken window and some glass splinters (because some idiot for whatever reason thought carefully picking up the sheet of shattered glass barely held together by tint bare-handed would be fine, and in fact aside from slightly prickly it was up til the point where it needed to be chucked into the bin).

Wow... that punk!!! I hate thief and I'm glad that none of you is hurt. I would be too shocked to do anything in your situation, but I wish you would take his picture when he's pilfering so he can get jailed.

Thieves aren't my favourite either -_- That's actually my only regret, I was so busy trying to fight my instinct to "disable" him that I completely did not think about using my phone camera til well afterwards! With my amazing 20/20 hindsight it's now pretty obvious that I had heaps and heaps of time to pull out my phone and start recording and hand it to one of the kids, but yeh completely didn't occur to me at the time when it needed to XD

The suckiest thing was the broken window, so much glass! At least it wasn't raining when I was driving home lol XD I needed new sunnies anyway, the stolen ones were scratched to hell XD I'm annoyed about the fm transmitter (I have to listen to the radio now DX) but that was on its way out too.

Once, a friend had his car broken into. They stole the CD player, which wasn't working, and he was due to have removed the following day.
They also stole a cheese knife he had in the glove box.
The criminal who did this, also left a wallet, with no id, but $50, which paid for the new CD player which they had stolen.
It was the most bizzare crime, and the only one I've seen where the victim has been left better off.
That...is really bizarre O_o lol about the criminal losing their wallet, too bad about the no id, but yay for the victim being better off for a change XD

Yeh it's all good now, just need to get that last window tinted at some stage, it's annoying me XD And also put all the books and paperwork and stuff that's supposed to be in the car back in the car.
