[ShoutOutSaturdays] : Can I get a Witness?

in #shoutoutsaturdays7 years ago (edited)

It's the weekend!

I'm up bright and early today and I'm feeling fine! First thing I see on my feed is @crazybgadventure's post about ShoutOutSaturday (SOS), and he has only gone and featured me in it. Thank you very much! Such kind words and some very nice things to say about the BuddyUP community.

There is going to be no hanging about today, there is too much to do! But before you start to read down, give the embedded Youtube link below a click, to see what has started off my Saturday morning.

Who has made my week?

I'm going to keep the format of my ShoutOutSaturdays to 3 people every week and they're going to be people who have helped, inspired or challenged me to become better in life. I love the SOS initiative and I think everyone should take the time to spread some good vibes and thank those who have had a part to play in your growth.

So without further ado...

@cgbartow

This guy has got the potential. We started speaking more towards the start of the week after I noticed his Community Growth Project in my Steemit search engine while I was looking up tags. Listen to this... he didn't even send a message letting me know that he had spoke about BuddyUP on his CGP show! Now that's humility.

The show was top notch and I've decided to support @cgbartow all I can within the community to help him get his feet off the ground. He understands the significance of sharing others work and encouraging others to do better. We are very lucky to have somebody in the community who is consistently following through with such an empowering project. If you haven't already, stop by to his latest video here and let him know what you think.

Keep on going mate. What you're doing with CGP is very valuable to the community and it's a pleasure to see. I have reflected on my own character after watching how you roll and I hope to stay in contact with you for the foreseeable future.

Did I forget to mention that he joined the PYPT evening show on Thursday, for the first time, and delivered a ridiculously good presentation?

@poetrybyjeremy

If you haven't already worked out what our next member is an expert in, you might need to go and make yourself a cup of coffee before we go any further... Poetry! He has some serious skill and over the past week, I've found myself getting more intrigued by poems after experiencing his work. Correct form, punctuation and meaning is paramount and the boxes are always ticked when it comes to @poetrybyjeremy's writing.

Not only does he write fantastic poems, he also gives very honest and critical feedback for your writing. He has helped me understand how I can take my writing a step further with the use of correct punctuation. He has also been getting involved with my Zuton series which I'm very pleased about (those 7 days to edit and publish can get a bit pressuring!).

It's always a joy to speak with you and it's pleasant to know that there is somebody in the vicinity who will give honest advice without letting things get personal. I'm going to leave a link to the start of Welcome To The Sombre Days, right here.

@sircork

If you were partaking in the PYPT show on Thursday, you definitely would have heard the talks about Witnesses. I'm aware there was a chat going on in the voice channel yesterday but I was busy and unable to make it. The beginning of the morning show started with a wake-up call from @ancapbarbie. Did you realise that there is currently 11 'dead' witnesses in the top 50 list?

Did you even know there was a top 50 Witness list? Did you even know there is people called witnesses that make this whole Steemit experience possible? - I did, but I didn't take it seriously.

The presentation was a heavy hitter and many people chimed in during the show. I think it's stirred some real calls to action and there has been a definite change in dynamic from some people I know. Rightly so! The witnesses who put in the blood, sweat a, d tears to make something of this place, are being metaphorically shit on from above by not just the dead witnesses, but anybody who isn't taking this seriously.

After the morning show, @sircork was discussing the situation and what he is currently doing as a witness. I have to say, he seems like one of the good guys who is willing to turn over a few stones. He gave multiple great resources and educated those of us who were listening in. I'll leave some links below.

It's easy to be ignorant and neglect something that you feel like you don't understand. It's easy to just let things happen and be reactive to it after the fact. It's easy to sit around and do nothing.

Don't shit on the witnesses that are actively trying to make this place better for us.

TAKE ACTION

Hold up... so I didn't move you enough to make a change right at this second. That's fine. I can take that on the chin and move on with it. But have you used all your witness votes?

No?

Well if you don't have the time to make a well-informed decision based on your own knowledge, you can navigate to the bottom of the witness voting page and find a box that looks like this:

This option lets you choose somebodies list of witness choices and use your votes on the same people. There are a mixture of different people who have researched and chosen witnesses that are active and beneficial to the platform. Make sure your votes aren't being wasted because you aren't willing to put in the time to research.

I am not going to state anyone in the post directly. If there are any recommendations, leave them below.

Final words

ShoutOutSaturdays is an amazing initiative thought up by @crazybgadventure.

Taking the time to reflect back on your week and give thanks to the people that made it great is so important. I'm glad there is a tag for us all to get involved and also so we can check out all of the other SOS posts so easily. If you have the time to write today, get yourself involved with ShoutOutSaturdays.

All you have to do is write about atleast 3 people and use the tag 'shoutoutsaturdays'

I like Belaire! Where did you find them? Now if Corky would just pass that thing we could really get a groove on. Yeah you, @sircork, I see you lurking there.

@cgbartow is new to me, I'll be checking him out. Stellar choices for your other two.

Witnesses are important, especially @sircork. Glad to see you pushing the issue.

Trust me, I'm a doctor.

Catweasel-c.png

I'm not important, but my projects and message are. Hopefully the seeds I am planting will outlive me.

Nit-picking, dear boy. To your constituents what you do makes you important. By that token of course, once you stop doing it you cease to be important. I can't imagine a world without @sircork, but I don't want to contemplate a world without HOPE.

Trust me, I'm a doctor.

Neither do I, Doctor Weasel, neither do I.

My youtube recommendations list! I have got a big treasure trove of songs just like that one. I'll be sharing them on a Saturday to accompany the stars of the week.

Definitely, do swing by and show him some support. He's seriously impressing me lately.

They are and we will all do our bit to make sure the right ones are where they need to be to make the changes to help us all. Thanks for stopping by @catweasel.

It's 8:27am here in Virginia and I'm listening to the track, smoking things and drinking sweetened coffee. I'm loving the vibe of this track for a wake up session and thanks for that.

But thanks even MORE for the feature in the article, and I'm flattered and grateful for you taking notice of what's going on with witnesses. It's so vital to the life of the system that people make healthy witness selections, understand at least a laymans view of the block chain, what it is, how it works, and what witnesses do to facilitate that.

Pleased to have had the time to chat with you and look forward to the next opportunity to do so!

Cheers,

I'm glad you enjoyed it pal, it's a favourite of mine for the weekend mornings. I was, unfortunately, missing out on the things to truly enjoy the track.

It was a pleasure to hear your thoughts on the current system and I am going to do as much as I can with the BuddyUP gang to get more people considering their votes.
Hopefully, over time, there will be more visible resources cropping up about the blockchain and the system surrounding it.

It would be great if there was a standard post that was 'free', and we could all post it monthly on our blogs (without payout) and it would help educate any newcomers to the platform about this. Completely riddle the place with it. Yes, lots of questions, problems and toxicity surrounding this idea. Just a thought.

Likewise, I hope to hear from you in the near future! Enjoy the rest of your day.

People like steem.center and steemshelves and yanosh01 with steem repo and others are working to centralize some evergreen documentation, but it takes contributors to get those docs written and time to get the word out. I think we are heading that way though.

Your buddyup project is a great idea. Buddy systems are an integral way to surmount anything really, and that's why militaries, boy and girl scounts, big brothers and big sisters foundations, and school kids and on and on are always doing it.

Good plan, carry on!

Yours in service,

Don't forget @ethandsmith's community documentation project. He plans to publish it for non-steemians so they come in with a basic knowledge rather than floundering like most of us did.

Trust me, I'm a doctor.

Here is the link to the first part of the guide for anybody interested.

There is an introduction to the whole guide here.

Good catch! I do all this from memory without checking my notes. I track a LOT of people and projects. I failed this time, to one of my best supporters. Thanks for catching it and calling me out on it!

Wow! I'm honoured to be even mentioned, but all that praise! Very flattering and I cannot thank you enough for your kind words!

As for the witnesses, I know there needs to be more awareness. I would definitely be into following someone's witness votes if there is a recommendation. I have voted for some witnesses, but obviously, I am not familiar with many witnesses. As for the steemian page, that was very interesting to see all that info about witnesses, including missed blocks, etc. I am not sure what that means exactly, but yeah, there were a lot of crossed-out red names, which I suppose make the 11 inactive ones that you have mentioned.

Not a problem @poetrybyjeremy :) You are a great help! The first thing you did was send me some edits for this post!! That's exactly the kind of help I'm talking about in this post. It's nice to know somebody will let me know and they don't have to worry about it being personal to me.

The witness situation needs some exposure and some support from people who want to see the best for the platform. I'm glad Steemian could help you out, it's a great tool and it can keep you on top of who is doing what and how they stand on the platform.

I love the theme of this post. I have a lot of people I could mention and thank. It's a great way to give recognition and have a great post.
Although, I disappointed you didn't list anyone who you recommend to follow their witness voting. Perhaps via DM you'd give a name :) I just don't know enough to fill my whole list and would love someone to research their choices. Thanks1

It's a brilliant idea! @crazybgadventure has come up with a winner for sure :)

The reason I didn't was that it means that my post will always recommend that witness and I don't want to have that on the BC. That is just my preference though. I will definitely DM you who I have already voted. I'm currently taking a little time every day to read up about different people and decide whether they are beneficial to the system at this current time.

@qberry I would not worry too much if you have not used your full allowance, it takes time to work out which are good witnesses which are worthy of your vote and why. I have not used my full allowance either, I would rather not be hasty when it comes to voting. Saying that @calumam something to consider of doing something on a similar scale for witnesses perhaps a witness wednesday if people would like to hit up about who they voted for a why, it would be a great thing.

Thanks for saying that. It's very helpful. I felt bad for not already having them all, but as I find someone that I think is worthy, etc and are a witness I have voted for them. I just need to shake that feeling of needing to get all the votes in. Great idea on a weekly post.

My first and second witness votes were for the people who helped get my wife's account straightened up. One of them suggested I vote for them by way of a thank you. I had no idea what I was doing, but it seemed a reasonable request. They are still on my list because they are still active members who help people on steemit, especially newcomers, who need it.

I still have free votes, that allowed me to vote for @sircork the day I met him. He goes well above and beyond the call of duty. I don't know what I'll do if one day I find someone equally deserving/in need of my vote and I have no spare.

I don't worry too much about what a witness does for the blockchain. That's just machinery. What is most important is what a witness does for the people. That comes from the heart. The winesses I vote for have huge hearts.

Trust me, I'm a doctor.

Catweasel-c.png

I don't know what I'll do if one day I find someone equally deserving/in need of my vote and I have no spare.

This.

It gets harder and harder to choose as your progression continues here and your friends become witnesses, but you already have 30 friends who are witnesses and you are all friends because you are all #teamgood types all around and so you all vote for each other. lol then you got a real puzzle to solve.

I have not used all my witness votes. Thank you for encouraging me to do so.

But its not about needing time to research witnesses, its that I don't quite understand what a witness actually does, how its important, and how to find the ones that are great for me and my goals.

If you know of a post that covers that, id love to read it.

I liked your shoutoutsaturdays post, thanks for sharing the people that make your experience on steemit great.

I thought I had voted for more witnesses, but I guess I haven't.

I did vote for @sircork.

Thank you very much!
