Boys and Their Toys

.22 Henry, .45 Henry, a basic 9mm (not in picture) and a snubnose revolver were the toys of choice.

My Father, recently retired, and also diagnosed with Cancer, has been electing to spend his free time practicing up on his shooting and what better way to spend some time bonding with your son than to bring him along for some shooting.

We were just shooting a can on a wood pile, from only about 15-20 yards... but it was still a blast. Even with having to endure the bugs and overgrown nature of the Mesa.

Well worth the bug bites. A good lesson. And a moment I won’t forget spent with my own Father learning the ins and outs of a few rifles.

Iv been shooting air rifles longer than I can remember, perhaps since 5 years of age, but never really dabbled in any real modern ammunition firearm.

As you’d imagine if you have any gun knowledge, the .22 shot like a pea shooter in comparison to the .45 cannon of a rifle.
The kick on the .45 legitimately put a bruise in my arm, I guess because I held too tightly or something... but the boom the gun let out was unmatched.

The .45 blew right through this 2x4 where we had the can placed against. The can went flying with every hit.

Health is wealth in this world, and time is always moving. I love my Father and will cherish this memory.

James also loves Grandpa, they talk all the time.

I’m excited to be able to teach my own son about all the things he should know about firearms.. perhaps I should do a bit more practicing before he grows up.

I’m hoping Grandpa can stay healthy and be around for all of James’ life achievements.

I pray to Heavenly Father.

Take care y’all.
