Beer Moon Saturday [Day Five - 7DBC]
Concrete Jungle Fever
delayed continuation of the seven day beer challenge
as nominated by my esteemed (pun?!) compatriot
mr. @trumpman
After a full day of wandering, a refreshing beer was much needed and well deserved. But first let’s start with brunch.
the lumberjack special
The day started at a diner with a burly lumberjack breakfast. For those who don’t know, it includes 2 eggs cooked to your liking, with either pancakes, waffles or french toast, your choice of either sausage, bacon or ham, and home-fry style potatoes.
I went with fried eggs over-easy, french toast and bacon. And a double espresso.
The spot was hit.
Not the diner we ate at, but the line here caught my eye.
death avenue
Fast forward past the hustle and bustle of city ‘sploration and it’s almost beer time.
Just off the High Line was a corner tavern, newly renovated, whispering: come inside, quench your thirst and have a bite to eat.
Sitting on a cushioned bench, by the storefront window overlooking the street, it was time to finally unwind. The beer was called Mr. Brown and the personal-sized pizza (of course there was pizza) was called Sweet and Savory.
Coincidentally there was a Mediterranean / Greek influence on the cuisine. Thus the olive oil and sesame crusted pizza I ordered was topped with sliced dried figs, manouri cheese and indigestion-inducing arugula.
It was scrumptious.
the pizza - buon apetito / καλή όρεξη!
Sweet Brown Belgian
This beer was one of the best beers I’ve had recently. It’s description is spot on. Which I actually didn’t read until this post.
It was crisp and tart, with a slightly sweet finish. It was almost cider-like but not that sweet. The mild kick from the ABV matched the balance of sweet and sour flavor.
I’d order this beer again and would recommend it too.
jackasses and the end of winter
After the [jackass] busser took (without asking or hesitation) my last slice of pizza, I thought my day/night was ruined.
However on the way home, the lunar signaling of winter’s close, jumped out at us to save the day.
The last full moon of winter.
Unfortunately I wasn’t able to capture it’s magnificence in a photograph. But if anyone else saw it they could confirm. And thus it was enough to bring the mood back to Mr. Brown levels.
Nominating @derekfreeman to partake in the seven day beer challenge (at his own leisure)
...and @mittymartz join up!
These are the rules:
- You have to try a new beer every day, for 7 days
- The beer must be something you have never tasted before
- You must put a photo of the beer and write a few words about it
- Nominate someone every day
- If you are a social outcast with no friends to invite you just join the fun. You have every excuse to drink!
- Use the tag "#sevendaybeerchallenge" as one of your five tags.
Also using this to enter in @detlev’s #beersaturday contest - if I’m not too late...
This is cool
Beer challenge...... I don't want to be addicted 🙈
Can I join?
Sure you can join! Be careful not to be addicted! Just “one” beer and you don’t have to follow the rules so strictly. It’s a way to post more and to interact with people. In my interpretation of the challenge. :)
