Global Warming and Climate Changes' are the topics that I have been dealing with for some time in my posts to try to spread as much as possible about the situation in which our Planet finds itself.

Unfortunately, even today, although there are real problems to face from the fires to the tsunamis to drought spread all over the globe, we waste time fighting fake news and trying to understand who is right among those: WHO claim that climate change is a natural evolution given the 5 previous extinctions and therefore the human being is not the cause and WHO claims quite the opposite and that is that the enormous exploitation of resources and the inability of mankind to reduce its impact on the planet cause an acceleration to climate change.

I would very much like that regardless of the causes we were able to find all of us a common goal: that is to make our Planet a better place for all living species in respect of the natural rhythms and cycles of our planet.

Because it is still possible.

But what is Global Warming?

To put it simply, it is the increase in the global average temperature.
Global Warming leads to drastic Climate Change, generating serious consequences on the whole Planet, from melting ice, to rising sea levels, to desertification, to loss of biodiversity.

What does human being have to do with this?

Deforestation, the use of fossil fuels, intensive farming, and more, all human activities that increase greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere.

The International Scientific Community has been alarming for years on the consequences of climate change but unfortunately the economic interests of large multinationals and industrial sector lobbies manage to condition the governments of all countries.

Unfortunately, first of all, we always think of safeguarding economic interests at the expense of everything and everyone.
It doesn't matter if we consume all the resources of the whole year already within the first 6-8 months.
It does not matter if overvuilding and deforestazione are destroying the natural habitats of animal and plant species leading to their extinction.
It does not matter if large industries pour their production waste everywhere without taking care of polluting aquifers, rivers, seas and making water unsafe and fish risky to eat.
No matter how many fine particles and polluting gases are dispersed in the environment.
The important thing is to continue to produce at unceasing rates so that the small part (1%) of the world's population that holds 47,2% of global wealth can continue to enrich themselves.
According to Oxfam Report 3.4 billion people live on less than $ 5.5 a day.

But are we really sure this is the only possible way we have to live?

What if this great debate on global warming was opening us up to new alternatives such as the Green Economy?
In recent years, from 2000 to 2016, according to EUROSTAT, green jobs have increased by 49% in the European Union countries while jobs generated by the traditional economy have grown by 6%.
In short, there is no denying that the Green Economy has great potential.

Continuing to exploit the Planet without taking care of its state of health is no longer feasible and above all changing our system of exploitation of the Planet is not a utopia.
But it must start from all of us, from every single citizen who must induce his government to deal with environmental issues and climate change.
How? Voting first of all the right politicians.

But we can all contribute with small daily actions such as:

  • separate waste collection,
  • when it is possible to choose to use an alternative means of transport instead of the car,
  • not to waste electricity, for example, leaving the lights on where it is not necessary or not using household appliances correctly,
  • purchase seasonal and local food and use biodegradable plastic bags.

And above all surround yourself with plants at home because they create oxygen and many have the ability to absorb the pollution that lurks without our knowledge in our homes.

It is no coincidence that large metropolises like New York are converting to the Green trying to combat climate change by creating large green areas wherever possible even on the roofs of skyscrapers.
Brooklyn Grange is a great example about the possibility ro change our lifestyle, it is the largest roof garden of New York, capable of producing 25 thousand kilos per year of fresh vegetables.
To date, in addition to the greening of public buildings (over 700 gardens and 430 are school spaces), thousands of people cultivate their small personal vegetable garden on the terrace at home trying to improve their lifestyle concretely.

From the latest scientific research published by ETH Zurich researchers ( press release 2019) if we planted a thousand billion trees all over the world we would protect the climate, sequestering as many as 200 billion tons of carbon by reducing the increase in anthropogenic CO2 by two thirds.
But still there is discussion about the feasibility of this ambitious project as a remedy for the consequences of industrial development over last two centuries.

I understand that not everyone realizes that there are climate changes taking place because maybe their climate is always the same and it remains difficult to believe that in other countries it is happening.
I live in Italy and my country like most European countries is undergoing major and serious changes to the climate.

When I was a child and I talk about over thirty years ago, we still had 4 distinct seasons: in winter it was cold and in summer hot and in spring and autumn we had mild temperatures and a little rain.
Well for a few years our seasons have gone mad.
When it should rain, especially in autumn, it does not make a drop of water, it does not even rain for a month in a row.
But when it decides to rain, however, in a few hours it puts down the same amount of water that it should have done in the whole year and the damage is enormous: rivers overflow flooding cities causing casualties and damage to the whole community.

During this period for example, in early February 2020, it should be COLD, where I live there should be about 9/10 degrees of maximum.
Instead, we have had spring temperatures for weeks reaching a maximum of 16 degrees.
Our glaciers in the Alps are melting because the annual falling snow is no longer sufficient and the temperatures are not as low as they should be.

So do I believe in Global Warming?

I am experiencing climate change on my skin!
And I feel so helpless.
I feel that we are only wasting time, that our governments are doing nothing but trying to postpone the problem.
But despite everything, I find a glimmer of hope in the squares all over the world full of people who loudly say that it is not yet too late to act.

The important thing is to act now.

Thanks a lot for reading my post.❤️
