Climate change is one of the biggest crises facing humanity.

What is Climate Change?

Climate change is the rise in average surface temperatures on Earth, which is due to the burning of fossil fuels. The gases trap heat within the atmosphere, which can lead to several effects on ecosystems, that includes rising sea levels, severe weather events, and droughts that render landscapes more susceptible to wildfires.

NASA’S definition of climate change says it is “a broad range of global phenomena created predominantly by burning fossil fuels, which add heat-trapping gases to Earth’s atmosphere. These phenomena include the increased temperature trends described by global warming, but also encompass changes such as sea level rise; ice mass loss in Greenland, Antarctica, the Arctic and mountain glaciers worldwide; shifts in flower/plant blooming; and extreme weather events
Least I forget the acronym NASA is used to represent the National Aeronautics and Space Administration it is a federal agency that is responsible for aerospace research, aeronautics, and the civilian space program. source

Global warming is just an aspect of climate change, so now let’s look at the meaning of global warming before we continue. Global warming refers to the rise in global temperatures due mainly to the increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Again global warming is also the long-term rise in the average temperature of the Earth's climate system. It is a major aspect of climate change and has been demonstrated by direct temperature measurements and by measurements of various effects of the warming.

Causes of climate change.

It has been reported that the primary cause of climate change is the burning of fossil fuels, such as oil and coal, which emits greenhouse gases into the atmosphere—primarily carbon dioxide? Other human activities, such as agriculture and deforestation can also contribute to the proliferation of greenhouse gases that cause climate change. source

Most scientists say that humans can change climate too. People drive cars. People heat and cool their houses. People cook food. All those things take energy.
One way we get energy is by burning coal, oil and gas. Burning these things puts gases into the air. The gases cause the air to heat up. This can change the climate of a place. It also can change Earth's climate. The proof of this extreme climate changes are connected to rising levels of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases in the Earth’s atmosphere more often than not, the result of human activities. Funny enough some people may feel that climate change is not real but there is broad-based agreement within the scientific community that climate change is real. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration agrees to the fact that climate change is indeed occurring and is almost certainly due to human activity.

Causes of Global Warming.

Global warming occurs when carbon dioxide (CO2) and other air pollutants and greenhouse gases collect in the atmosphere and absorb sunlight and solar radiation that have bounced off the earth’s surface. Normally, this radiation would escape into space—but these pollutants, which can last for years to centuries in the atmosphere, trap the heat and cause the planet to get hotter. That's what's known as the greenhouse effect.

How climate change affects the politics of a place?

Climate change has a whole lot of effect on the economic and politics of a place. Food security is already being impacted in a number of African countries and researchers are studying suggestive links between climate change and an increased likelihood of military conflict. The seas are actually rising. The foods we eat are taken for granted and are being threatened. The rate of Ocean acidification is increasing day by day. Ecosystem are changing, some regions are going under extinction and some going to their end, some species have no other choice than to adapt to the condition, for others, it’s not that easy. source

Furthermore, climate change is already challenging and can further challenge our societies. With the increase in temperatures in some countries, especially in Equatorial regions, the flow of climate refugees is changing and increasing, putting pressure in other countries to host them, help them strive and overcome political barriers. source

The climate also affect the economy of so many countries, where raw materials are tempered with due to the climate change thereby rendering some industries helpless and short of raw material. This happens when the climate is either too hot or too dry, too cold or too wet.

Apart from the economy of a place climate change also has effect on businesses so here are the consequences. Businesses are also likely to be affected by climate change. Indeed, in a context where the climate is changing, companies need to be aware of the risks that they may face with and be prepared to deal with them. Events such as damaged crops, the loss of infrastructures, unexpected changes in market stocks, investors that ask for sustainability reports and the growing expectations of society for business to be transparent is something to keep an eye on.

In my country like Nigeria, Akwa-ibom state precisely, we have more influx of refugees begging on the street, some will even go as far as holding you by the cloth if you don’t give them what they want. This alone will cause the government to plan of feeding them. And I am not surprise if it cannot be used to pull down the government because most people might as well say that the government isn’t doing their work.

How to fight climate change.

To fight climate change, we must first reduce our greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions. To accomplish this, the first step is to embrace renewable energies that are naturally replenished on a human timescale, such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, waves, and geothermal heat, and avoid creating energy by the burning of fossil fuels. As well, besides trying to change the types of energy we produce, we must also make everything more efficient, because even if the energy comes from a renewable source, it still won’t be carbon free and will still contribute for the ozone depletion. Just as animals try to adapt to the change in climate then we need to adapt our lifestyles to overcome these growing challenges that climate change is bringing.
For this to happen, we should start to create a worldwide culture of sustainable development, where the energy is wised wisely and efficiently, where a circular economy is a strong bet, as well as durable and eco-friendly products. One thing is for sure, we need to choose responsibly the products we buy because our demand as consumers influences what we are supplied with. source

What can you and i do to control this climate change?

1. You can help by using less energy and water.
2. Try to turn off lights and TVs when you leave a room.
3. Try as much as possible to turn off the water when brushing your teeth.
4. Another way to help is to help plant trees, i.e desist from deforestation (cutting down of trees) but rather encourage afforestation (planting of trees).source

5. If Using a Car, you should take at least 3 people with you.
6. Having an ecological Diet that’s Not Meat-Based.
7. Choosing Clothes Carefully and Supporting the Slow Fashion Movement.
8. Using Photovoltaic Panels If You Can.
9. Turning Your Office Paperless.
10. Learning About Regenerative Agricultural Practices. source

Another way to help is by learning about Earth. The more you know about Earth, the more you can help solve climate problems.

Prevention of Global Warning.

Are you wondering how to stop global warming? Then you have reduce your own carbon footprint by following a few easy steps. Make conserving energy a part of your daily routine and your decisions as a consumer. When you shop for new appliances like refrigerators, washers, and dryers, look for products with the government’s Energy Star label; they meet a higher standard for energy efficiency than the minimum federal requirements. When you buy a car, look for one with the highest gas mileage and lowest emissions. You can also reduce your emissions by taking public transportation or carpooling when possible.

Country's that has high level of Global Warming Pollution

In recent years, China has taken the lead in global-warming pollution, producing about 28 percent of all CO2 emissions. The United States comes in second. Despite making up just 4 percent of the world’s population, we produce a whopping 16 percent of all global CO2 emissions—as much as the European Union and India (third and fourth place) combined. And America is still number one, by far, in cumulative emissions over the past 150 years. Our responsibility matters to other countries, and it should matter to us, too. source
