EMP Hardened Devices

in #security7 years ago

In utilizing airships as a 21st century infrastructure, we will rely on solar power as our primary source of renewable energy, for the obvious reason of the abundance of solar radiation in the atmosphere.  In any case, whatever electronic devices we use are vulnerable to emp bursts, which are both natural(solar) and man-made(primarily nuclear).  Because the primary source of emp's are the sun, it is only a matter of time before one hits, such as the Carrington Event, also known as the solar storm of 1859.  This solar storm produced an emp that fried telegraph systems all over Europe and North America.  These emp's fry anything electrical that has sufficient length of wires to build up energy and burn out wiring and circuit boards.

We can also produce emp's artificially with sophisticated electronic devices, but the easiest way is to use a nuke which produces a significant emp upon detonation.  When exploded at near ground level for maximum destruction of the surface of the land, minimal emp effects are produced.  However, when detonated high in the atmosphere, a single nuclear device can produce an emp that could wipe out electronics across the entire continental U.S.

This is what some have speculated is the "Ace in the Hole" that Kim Jong Un has been hinting that he has, that is, a nuclear device already in earth orbit.  We know that the North Korean leader already has access to satellites that pass directly over the United States mainland.  Does one of them contain a small nuclear device?(it only takes a "small" one to produce devastating emp's)

If you haven't thought about this already, it is important to note the catastrophic nature of a coronal mass ejection or targeted emp on modern society.  The most important consequence would be the breakdown of infrastructure preventing people from getting food and water.  As bad as that is, the thing that gives me nightmares is the immediate effect on electronic devices of which people are relying on for their very survival, namely people on life-support systems, and those who, at the time of "The Event", are in the belly of a jet airplane.

Imagine THOUSANDS of airplanes all falling out of the sky at the same time.  It is like something out of the zombie apocalypse in terms of the horror of it.  Although, when it happens(and yes, I said WHEN, not IF), almost no one will even know that it happened, because all of the forms of electronic communication will be disabled.  Your cellphones(and even laptops) should actually survive the event, because the wires inside them are too small to build up enough energy to fry the device, although if it is plugged in to the wall at the time it will be toast.  That won't matter though  because the cell towers and electrical grid will be fried.  So even if one of the jumbo jets crashes in your backyard,(unless you live next to the airport) you will have no way to know that planes are falling out of the sky all over the country.

So what happens to those intrepid airship captains and their courageous crews?  They survive, as their ship floats lazily back to the Earth rather than falling like a rock.  In our modern society, however, their ship doesn't even have to be disabled.  Thanks to a company called Sol-Ark, we have access to EMP hardened solar panels, generators, and suppressors to protect other electronic devices.  This modern way of hardening electronic devices will keep our airships running perfectly through nuclear attacks and coronal mass ejections.

Check these guys out!!  Their solar equipment is only slightly more expensive than non-hardened versions!!
