Memorial Prom Concert | Proceeds donated to Regional Cancer Center - Featuring yours truly on the organ!

Source

This Saturday, 21 September 2019 at 2.30pm, I will be performing in the Tim Fischer Memorial Prom Concert at St Matthew's Church, Albury. Also performing is Tom Strong (accompanied on the piano by Paul Tasker). The tickets are $30 (AUD) with proceeds going to the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Center and the Tim Fischer St Matthew's Music Association Inc. Scholarship. My recent CD will also be for sale, where a portion of the proceeds will also go towards further work on the organ (reinstallation of the Voix Humaine rank and digital 32' stops) and the Music Association.

I wrote about Tim Fischer a few weeks ago. Sadly, he passed away after fighting a long term fight with cancer. He was a big supporter of music and the pipe organ. Tim was actually was helping to organise the concert for this weekend and he was particularly keen on a Prom Concert. But since he is no longer with us, we have turned it into a Memorial Prom Concert. What is a Prom Concert, do you ask?

The Proms are concerts which are part of a big music festival. “Proms” is short for “Promenade Concerts”.

Basically, it's a concert with a lot of pomp and circumstance—a formal gathering of grandeur and celebration!

This afternoon I was asked to demonstrate the organ for the local news. They wanted to give the concert publicity, as it was supporting a good cause, and this also coincided with two organbuilders being onsite. They were finishing up the work on replacing the front facade pipes. They had to be removed a couple of months ago to be strengthened (as they were collapsing) in Melbourne. During this time we could not use the 16' and 8' Montre and Octave on the pedal division. There were also three notes in the bottom octave of the Swell Trompette that needed attention.

During my rehearsals this week, I will have to re-register my pieces so that I can use these ranks again. I have been purposely avoiding them because there would be obvious 'holes' in the sounds where the notes should have sounded. This is what the organ looked like with the front facade pipes removed:

And this is what it looks like when it's in full glory!

My priorities this week are this concert and my lunchtime organ recital next Tuesday. I hope I will be able to set aside some time to still participate in this week's Secrets of Organ Playing Contest hosted by @organduo and @laputis. This week's judge will be @partitura.

Yours truly,
@contrabourdon
