Building communities and sub-communities on SCT

Yesterday,I wrote about my experience when I first came across Steemit in 2016, and how SCT has the same excitement factor. If you are interested, you can read my previous post here. Whilst the beginnings of a project can often be exciting, it is what happens afterwards that determines the longevity of a project.

Building community and sub-communities

Without a solid user base, a project most likely won't go anywhere, and without community, the user base isn't likely to grow. So far, SCT has done a great job in building a strong community in the Korean community, and now, as SCT expands outside the Korean community, there needs to be communities and sub-communities formed that share the same DNA as the initial SCT community.

What I mean is this: the communities and sub-communities that form needs to share the same vision and commitment for the SCT project. We all know what happened with Steemit in the early days when people came on for a quick buck, and you never heard from them again. But it's those people that stayed on and persevered that eventually kept Steem going, and it's the communities that formed afterwards that grew Steem and gave it value. We have seen language communities develop on Steem such as the kr, cn, and fr communities, as well as interest groups such as photography, music, art and sport. Then within these language groups and interest groups, you see sub-communities that formed around a particular niche. But most importantly, people persevered, interacted with one another, and developed bonds around a common language and interest. And it's these communities and people within these communities that keep drawing me back to this place when times were tough.

So how do we go about building new communities for SCT?

First of all, having unique tags for communities and sub-communities is a good start. Thankfully there are already existing communities on Steem, and by adding the SCT tag, it will create a sub-community on SCT. Another way could be like what the # cn community have done by creating a new hash tag # sct-cn.

But simply having hash tags isn't enough. We need ways to build these communities. And one way of doing this is through contests and competitions to win some SCT, such as photography or music contests, sponsorship of SCT Steem Monsters tournaments, or a reward for the best response to a question. These contests not only serve to build community but will also help to promote awareness of SCT on Steem.
