11 ANGEL’S FALL
Her wings touched the face of the clouds as she soured above the sky. Frereda loved the smell of fresh air, and the light touch of the golden sun upon her face. Her deep blue wings burrowed into portions of the white clouds as she rushed to meet with Gadner, her best friend, she had to share what was bothering her with him.
Frereda was the most beautiful angel in the realm of Stellar. Her father was the ruler of the universe and he had appointed her the head of his army, as she was best with the sword.
Her silvery eyes glowed with wonder as she approached Gadner’s castle only to find it locked.
‘Where is he?’ She clipped her strong wings, and gathered her thick golden hair into a bun, while matching to the door of his castle.
She and Gadner had been friends for a long time. Frereda trusted him completely with all of her secrets, even the ones that could send her to the dark world, should the ruler of the Universe discover them.
‘Gadner, where are you?’ She closed her eyes, and searched for her best friend in her mind. She harnessed all of her powers in finding him, but she couldn’t. Gadner was nowhere to be found.
Suddenly, she felt a light tap on her shoulder.
‘Hello warrior princess, how do you do today?’ He welcomed her with a puckish smile on his face.
Her heart had jolted a bit, but she was careful not to let it show.
‘I am not afraid of you.’ She spread her wings and flew to the entrance of his castle.
‘Of course, Frereda fears no one.’ He flew after her.
‘Where did you go?’ Frereda asked, as she was not able to find him.
He ignored her question and pushed open the door with one fiery breath from his tiny nostrils which flared open.
He couldn’t tell her the truth, she would see him as a hypocrite.
‘Don’t even think of lying to me. Why couldn’t I track you?’ She tucked her wings in and marched towards a chair.
‘I went to see Hanna.’ He blushed and averted her gaze.
He knew how dangerous it is for an angel to fall in love with a human, but he couldn’t help it. Frereda had found herself in this same situation and had confided in him, but he had dissuaded her about pursuing the man she loved.
‘She is human…I can’t believe this.’ Frereda scoffed, and ran her slender fingers through her hair.
‘I am just an angel, but you are the Ruler’s daughter. You have no right to fall in love with a mortal man, it is forbidden by the rules forged in Orion and Pegasus.’ He quickly reminded her of the dire consequences of being caught, especially for an angel with a Ruler’s blood.
Tears welled up in her eyes as she thought of the human she had fallen in love with.
Greg Maxwell was the most handsome man she had set eyes on. She had rescued him from bandits one night while she was touring the clouds. They had beaten him and bruised his face, but she had healed him with her powers.
Greg was taken by her beauty and couldn’t help but kiss her. However, Frereda reminded herself that falling in love with a human was wrong.
‘I love him. I can’t stop thinking about him.’ Her voice cracked.
‘You should Frer, this human guy may not even remember you. Why pursue him?’ Gadner asked, he could see that she was deeply in love with this Greg guy, but he was afraid for her.
Frereda was tired of seeing him in her dreams, or watching over him from the clouds when he was asleep.
‘You know what? I am done listening to you. You have found love and you are happy. Why can’t I have that?’ She wiped the strand of tear that rolled down her cheeks and rushed to the door.
Gadner chased after her, ‘Darling, you don’t have to take that decision. Your father is brutal and would kill you or send you to the dark world should you disobey him.’
Frereda pushed his hands away, her mind was made up.
‘I am going back to the earth, and I would find the man I love. I do not care about my father’s brutality or your dissuasion. Love is the foundation of all things created by the Ruler. Why should I run away from it?’
With that, she pushed out her wings and flew out of Gadner’s house. But she had not gotten far, when her father’s guards, Angel Dorar and Angel Sefina, clipped her wings and bundled her to her father’s palace.
