The Van Allen Hoax

I often write about how we're lied to by our officials and the mainstream media. I do that for good reasons, because we are being lied to; propaganda is propaganda is propaganda, wherever it originates.

It's good to be on your toes; question everything the powers that be want you to accept and believe. This is no reason however, to believe everything that's said to discredit the message from "Uncle Sam"; there's a real danger to become overly cynical and dismiss out of hand anything that's considered "common knowledge". Some even go so far as to reduce our planet to a 2D plane with a fixed position in the center of the universe, complete with an edge made of the ice from the South Pole; I believe this "flat earth" society is still growing...

Before the flat earth it was, and still is, fashionable to show of your critical thinking by dismissing the Moon landings as history's greatest hoax. And one of the most often heard arguments against them have been and still is the Van Allen radiation belt; we can't ever have visited the Moon because of the lethal radiation in the planet-encompassing radiation belt that would have surely killed all the astronauts long before they reached the earth's only moon.

Now don't get me wrong; there are a lot of good reasons to doubt the moon-landings; there's even a very popular video of a NASA astronaut, Don Pettit, who states that it's been so long that we went to the moon because we destroyed the technology to do so! That's the kind of hilarious BS that gets us all doubting the official stories. But recognize that it's this same fragment that's repeated in hundreds of videos and for all I know it's taken out of context or Mr. Pettit loses his cool in front of a camera and starts talking gibberish.

But then there's all these videos that show astronauts on the International Space Station in supposedly weightless conditions, looking very much like they're suspended from a rope, instead of floating in gravity's absence. And the lighting and shadows that don't make sense in the pictures from the moon... But the strongest and most heard argument for this elaborate hoax is the Van Allen Belt. And I'm here tonight to put that argument to rest. The title for greatest hoax in history belongs with the 9/11 attacks anyway...

Now, the radiation belt is real and it is lethal to humans. That's not where this argument fails. You need to look closer at these regions around the planet to see why it doesn't hold up as an argument against space travel, something I'm very glad about; if this were true, we could forget about exploring beyond our own planet at all, as soon as we travel more than 600 km from the surface, as that's where the radiation belt begins.

The Van Allen Belt does not entirely surround the planet; it's a donut-shaped belt stretching out from the earth's equator, but not reaching the north or south pole. This makes it possible to travel along a trajectory that avoids most of the harmful region. What's also important to realize is the fact that this radiation is only harmful when exposed to it for an extended period of time, it takes many hours for this to become harmful or even lethal. The astronauts that supposedly visited the moon spent, as a result of their trajectory and speed, less than one hour in lethal space.

Nobody believes anything unless it's on YouTube, so I'll leave you with a video that explains all this in further detail. But I do hope this little explanation has got you doubting again ;-) And I hope you'll use that uncertainty to occasionally click on an article or a video with something you don't agree with; whatever the topic or subject, never stop with just one point of view or even just two, as there are always multiple perspectives on it, some of which you never would have imagined yourself. That's my experience at least.
