Remember Water?

in #science5 years ago

Water, it's a subject I've written about many times in the past, because the planet's most abundant substance remains a mysterie in many ways. Nothing on the planet can live without water, yet we know next to nothing about it.

Sure, water boils at 100 degrees Celsius under normal atmospheric pressure, it has an unusually high surface-tension, allowing some insects to walk or "skate" on it's surface. I even remember how to make a compass with a needle, a magnet, a piece of paper and a cup of water; you could float the needle on the water because of the surface-tension. These are things we all know, and we know that the planet's surface is three quarters covered with water.

Also our bodies are more than 70% water, if you measure by volume. So water is literally everywhere and needed for everything. Maybe it's because water is so ubiquitous that we fail to study it more, but that more study is needed is clear in my mind. There are a lot of studies that show water has properties we cannot explain and could be vital for our future on the planet. Many studies show that water has memory, that it remembers everything it comes in touch with. I think you'll have heard from the studies done by Dr. Masaru Emoto that show water's sensitivity to music, words and emotions. Here's a short video that shows how these things influence water's molecular structure:

Other scientists now believe that the H2O molecules can form many different structures; the chemical composition doesn't change, it stays H2O, but those molecules group in different ways when it comes in touch with different things. It's quite a breakthrough when we learn that the structure built by molecules can change the properties of the substance without the substance changing in chemical composition. In other words: there's a lot we don't know about how water molecules interact with each other and how this could explain water's more exotic behavior. Here's a TED talk by Dr. Gerald Pollack about what we've discovered about this molecular interaction over recent years; there's a possibility that we can generate energy with just water! Also I'd like to ask you, dear reader, if you know of any scientific research on one or more of water's unexplained properties; I'd like to learn more, as I hope you do too.
