RE: IT'S THE INTERNET, STUPID! "UFO SIGHTINGS HIT ALL-TIME HIGH"

in #science7 years ago

This is a complex subject and one that I have studied for over a decade after having my own close encounters. It makes perfect sense to me that reports increase with increased use of the internet, since the process of making reports is dramatically simplified by the web. None of this, though, can be easily shown to have any direct relationship to the actual number of real UFO sightings being experienced - since that figure is not known.. We only have the amount of sightings being reported.

Sort:

We can never know what we don't know. We can either extrapolate what we accept about reality from available data, or allow any old nonsense to penetrate our minds on the grounds that anything is possible.

One's experience might tell one the sun orbits a flat earth, and this could be the case. Data overwhelmingly suggest otherwise.

My point is not to reject the experience of the world as it is presented in data, my point is specifically that data can be misinterpreted due to the experience (or lack of experience) of the one doing the interpretation.
