In The Dark. A different look at the world.

And God said "let there be light". This is the first line in most Bibles, but have you ever seen it? Have you ever seen light? In fact have you ever seen anything?

I know for a fact that you have not. In fact I know that you have not seen light, you have never smelled anything, you have never tasted anything , and you have never felt anything.

You think I am crazy? Well follow me and I will show you how I know.

All of the functions of your body are tied to your brain. Your eyes see something, and as it does, it sends a signal to your brain about what you have saw.

The vibrations in the atmosphere vibrate causing your eardrum to vibrate as well. This vibration is relayed to the brain with an electrical pulse that tells you have heard something.

You put something into your mouth and taste it. As you do, the taste buds on your tongue send an electrical signal to your brain to tell you that you are tasting something.

You touch something with your hands and the nerves in your hands send your brain a signal that you are feeling something.

As you smell the air, receptors in your nose send electrical impulses to your brain that you are smelling something.

This is a very simplified version of how your senses work. But do you see what they all have in common? They all send electrical signals to the brain. You might be asking yourself, how does this have anything to do with the fact that I told you, you have not done any of these things.

Well, your body has done all of these things, and it does these things every second of every day. But YOU have not.

This is were I have to explain the meaning of YOU. You are not your body. You are in your head. Now we can argue weather or not you are your brain or you are your soul, but for this discussion we are going to say that you are your brain. Your body is much like a car that takes you were you want to go, and adds fuel to itself to keep you, the brain, alive.

Now when we look at things this way, you can say that you have never seen light. Your eyes see light and transfer the electric pulse to your brain. From here, your brain has to sort out what it recognizes from the things it sees. Your ears, tongue, pain receptors, and your nose rely on the same kind of exchange of information.

Look at it this way, imagine that you are in a box, when I say you, I mean your whole body you. You are in a box, no lights, no noise, nothing. Outside the box are 5 guys that you trust very well. These guys tell to you what they see, smell, taste, ect.. This is the brain you. Your brain has never seen Light, has never heard a noise. You are in your head.

Now that we have established this, we can take it a step further. Can you really trust the 5 guys outside of your box? Can you trust your eyes to give you the information that you need to react the way you need to?

I'll give you an example:

Say that you were walking through a store and happened to see a woman standing next to the frozen fruit. You glance at her. She is not the prettiest woman that you have ever seen, but you give her about a 5 out of 10. Now lets say that later you actually meet this woman and become good friends. Soon you start to notice that even though she is not a 10, but now she seems like about a 7, possibly an eight.

Now has your eyes lied to you?

What changed?

She didn't

Your perspective has.

This one is my favorite: In one experiment:Two kittens, same age, same size. One cat lived in a box that had black and white stripes that went vertical. The other was raised in a box that had black and white stripes that were vertical. Each cat was raised in these separate boxes.

After a couple of year the cats were taken out. The cat that lived in the horizontal box could not see table legs. He kept running into them. The other cat, the one raised in the vertical box, could not see table tops or anything that was horizontal. Each cat could only see what is was trained to see. It could not see anything else. Do you only see what you are trained to see? How can you trust that the 5 guys are giving you all the information?

Can you see light now?
