The Omega Nebula

Here is another good looking picture by the Hubble Space Telescope

source

This is a picture of the Omega Nebula, also called M17, taken by the Hubble Space Telescope. Since this area has a lot of star formation the nebula is being carved up by ultraviolet radiation. In this photograph the warm surfaces are orange and red, while the green is the hottest. This means in the future the green area will likely be the first to be blown away. Nebula do not last long in the grand scheme of things. [1]

There are different kinds of Nebula, but they are all clouds of gas in dust. Some of these include: Emission Nebulae, reflection Nebulae, Dark Nebulae, and Planetary Nebulae. Emission nebula are caused by ultraviolet radiation heating up clouds of gas and dust, M17 is an example. Reflection Nebulae reflect the light of nearby stars, while dark Nebulae block it. Planetary nebula are different. They are actually made of the layers of gas some stars shed at the end of their lives. The sun will become one of these, in a few billion years. [2]

I have seen this picture somewhere before? Or one very similar, If I could only recall where.

Great post.

great work ...like it

And from that nebula, another planet and stars were

I wonder what these would look like to the naked eye up close without the overlays from the different light spectrum sources.

well, basically black

edit: actually hydrogen glows red under ultraviolet I think, or at least that's where one line is. So a cloud of very dark red?

Interesting!
