A Volcano is a fissure on the surface of the earth through which hot lava, volcanic ashes and certain gases fizzle out from the magma chamber beneath it's surface.





A brief history of volcanoes: The term "Volcano" has been emanated from the name Vulcano, aka 'the god of fire' in Roman mythology. Volcanology, also known as vulcanology is known as the study of volcanoes.





Some of the most renowned volcanic eruptions in the history of humankind are as follows:
1).Mount. Vesuvias, Italy-AD 79.
2). Hatepe, New Zealand-AD 180.
3). Mount St. Helens, USA-1980.





Why do volcanoes erupt: Volcanic eruptions take place because of two factors namely density and pressure. For example:- A soda bottle filled with mentos or other things like it that create tremendous amounts of pressure within the bottle thus causing the soda to bob up and explode. Kaboom.





Types of volcanoes:

1). Active volcano: These types of volcanoes have experienced a bare minimum of one eruption in the last 10,000 years of their existence on this planet. They might be on the verge of erupting or may remain dormant. Example:- Pacaya, Guatemala.





2). Erupting volcano: As the name suggests is an active volcano that is currently experiencing an eruption. Kaboom. Example:- Barren Island (Andaman Islands).





3). Dormant volcano: This type of volcano is an active volcano that has remained stagnant for several years but may probably erupt again. Surprise. Example:- Mount Edziza, Canada.





4). Extinct volcano: It is like our old friend Mr. Joe who used to be pretty active in his youth but has currently lost his lustere i.e. remained dormant for a minimum of 10,000 years and may stay like that for some time in the near future as well. Example:- Hawaiian-Emperor seamount chain.
