Quite interesting article. I hope authorities start restricting use of MT now as preventive measure and do not wait until all the research is complete.

Although every imbalance is bad, the reduction of females is a serious problem. Lack of males could be palliated by artificial insemination, but lack of females is much more difficult to counteract.

True, but I imagine there could be one upside to this; with so many males, females can now be more choosy about their mates. With a larger male population (assuming that all the males are reproductively capable), the females will be able to pick the males with the best possible genes. It may not do much for their numbers but some sexual selection may be beneficial for the species.
