Hello dear friends, today I want to tell you an incredible story, which has changed the world and medicine, a story that touches me deeply and contains what I want to become a day as a doctor, the story starts from this image, from this kiss.

represented in this image we find Dr. Ferdinando Aiuti and his patient, Rosaria Iardino, and will be our protagonists of this adventure.

The false news was more sensational than the subsequent denial, conferences and conferences were called, doctors around the world were engaged in research on this new disease that had changed the world so much in a few years, among these doctors one was precisely Dr. Ferdinando Aiuti, Italian immunologist and researcher, engaged in the study of HIV, he was firmly convinced by scientific evidence that the virus was not transmissible by kissing and physical contact, so he decides to break the walls, and to demonstrate with a striking gesture his studies.

In those years so close to us, patients infected with HIV lived a social exclusion and immense marginalization, people were afraid and this fake news did nothing but throw fuel on the fire that was already burning strong.
It was time to say enough, science had to raise its voice.
And it did so with unparalleled strength.

It was the year 1991 and at the Cagliari fair a very strong debate took place between Professor L. Montagnier (supporter of the thesis that the kiss could be a vehicle of contagion), and Professor Aiuti, and here the incredible happened, Aiuti got up and gave a wonderful kiss to one of his HIV-positive patients Rosaria Iardino, this kiss was immortalized in the shot you see in the picture above, it was a gesture that changed the world, a gesture that went down in history, a kiss that broke the barriers created by ignorance.

The professor left us this year on January 9, 2019, Policlinico Agostino Gemelli, Rome, at the age of 83 years but his enormous contribution to science will never be forgotten, has gone down in history, and did so with that wonderful kiss, the kiss that changed the world.

Ciao a tutti cari amici, oggi voglio raccontarvi una storia incredibile, che ha cambiato il mondo e la medicina, una storia che mi tocca nel profondo e racchiude ciò che vorrò diventare un giorno come medico, la storia parte da quest'immagine, da questo bacio.

rappresentati in questa immagine troviamo il dottor Ferdinando Aiuti e una sua paziente, Rosaria Iardino, e saranno i nostri protagonisti di questa avventura.

correvano i primi anni 90, anni di grande terrore per il continuo diffondersi della sindrome da immunodeficenza acquisita, ai più nota come AIDS, la medicina non possedeva le conoscenze e i mezzi per poter gestire questa pandemia come al giorno d'oggi, le conoscenze in materia erano pressochè nulle, le cure molto scarse e poco efficaci e regnava un terrorismo mediatico che non ha avuto pari per nessun'altra patologia, ricerche infondate si fecero strada e fra queste una in particolare, diffusa dai colleghi negli USA in seguito ad uno studio sul contagio di una donna.

lo studio evidenziava la possibiltà di una trasmissione della malattia tramite secreti come la saliva, e che quindi la malattia non richiedesse un contatto con il sangue e che il bacio fosse un possibile veicolo di contaminazione.

Questa notizia fu ovviamente smentita, in quanto il contagio della paziente era causato dalla perdita di sangue dalle gengive dell'uomo, che aveva veicolato il virus e infettato la paziente, era stato quindi il sangue il veicolo dell'infezione, non la saliva!

Questa Fake news fece il giro del mondo e come sempre,
Fece più scalpore la notizia falsa piuttosto che la successiva smentita, furono indette conferenze e convegni, i medici di tutto il mondo erano impegnati nella ricerca su questa nuova patologia che aveva così tanto cambiato il mondo in pochi anni, fra questi medici uno era appunto il dottor Ferdinando Aiuti, immunologo italiano e ricercatore, impegnato nello studio dell'HIV, egli era fermamente convinto da evidenze scientifiche che il virus non fosse trasmissibile con il bacio e il contatto fisico, così decide di infrangere i muri, e di dimostrare con un gesto eclatante i suoi studi.

In quegli anni cosi vicini a noi, i pazienti contagiati da HIV vivevano un esclusione sociale ed un emarginazione immensa, le persone avevano paura e questa fake news non fece altro che gettare benzina sul fuoco che già divampava fortissimo.
Era ora di dire basta, la scienza doveva alzare la voce.
E lo fece con una forza senza pari.

Correva l'anno 1991 e alla fiera di Cagliari ebbe luogo un dibattito molto forte fra il professor L. Montagnier ( sostenitore della tesi che il bacio potesse essere veicolo di contagio), e il professor Aiuti, e qui successe l'incredibile, Aiuti si alzò e diede un meraviglioso bacio ad una sua paziente sieropositiva Rosaria Iardino, questo baciò fu immortalato nello scatto che vedete nella foto qui sopra, fu un gesto che cambiò il mondo, un gesto che passò alla storia, un bacio che ruppe le barriere create dall'ignoranza.

Il professore ci ha lasciati quest' anno in data 9 gennaio 2019, Policlinico Agostino Gemelli, Roma, all'età di 83 anni ma il suo enorme contributo alla scienza non verrà mai dimenticato, è passato alla storia, e lo ha fatto con quel meraviglioso bacio, il bacio che cambiò il mondo
