Antimatter Is Awesome Than You Think ! Everything you need to know in a simple explanation !

Matter, Antimatter, whats going on ? Be ready to scratch your head.

Welcome to my blog, here I post science topics in an incredibly simple way, giving you a pack full of knowledge and a basic understanding of this universe. Not very basic though !

So, what is antimatter ? You may have probably learnt in school what matter is, matter is anything having mass or occupy space. Then what antimatter are then? They also occupy space and have mass, not negative mass ! We know that matters are made up of proton, neutron and electron where proton is positive, electron is negative and neutron is neutral. Where most of the mass of the atom is the mass of the proton and neutron.

The similar principle applies for antimatter's too. Antimatter is made up of negatively charged anti proton and positively charged positron. Here the most of the mass is also occupied by anti proton and neutron but the difference is that it has more mass of negative charge than positive, which is just opposite of matter.

Then, how can we use them ? For this you need to know that if matter and anti matter just touch each other then there will be explosion. The explosion is huge ! To make things into your prospective, the explosion of a gram of antimatter is equal to the explosion of Hiroshima and Nagasaki combined. It's just a gram, a size of a coin touching your hand and boom ! Why this is happening then ? It is because 100% of the mass is converted into energy, again to make it into your prospective, a hydrogen bomb can only convert 7% of it's mass into energy.

Then is antimatter only useful for war and destruction purpose? Absolutely not, it can be used as a fuel. Using the fuel of antimatter, we can travel at an speed of the half of the light, which is insane because we can travel our nearest star in 2 years in that speed. Then why are we not using that?

We are not using it because it is incredibly difficult to get. Big Bang produced equal number of matter and antimatter, when matter and antimatter collided with each other then vanished and turned into energy in an explosion. There may be a totally a galaxy full of antimatter where there may be life and they may consider our matter as antimatter and our antimatter as a normal matter. This thing is relative, the universe is relative in itself.

But we have artificial ways to produce it, then why aren't we using it as a source of fuel? It is because it is incredibly hard to produce. A millionth of a gram of antimatter costs $60 billion to be produce, which is gigantic and we have not even produce a millionth of a gram of antimatter yet. The production is not only the main problem, storage is also one of them because virtually we cannot keep antimatter anywhere where there is matter. At present scientist keep the antimatter ever produced in a container where there is magnetic field and no air and the antimatter floats between the container.

So, guys thanks for reading. If you think antimatter's are awesome then leave an upvote and be sure to follow me for more science.

Just one precision: one can't use antimatter as fuel. It has been proposed that one could use antimatter as fuel. This is a totally different story.

One other little think: it may be good to include references to your posts, for the more interested readers so that they could find extra information.

Yes i Agree but this is just basic knowledge about antimatter where it is not required to go into detail of everything, this post is only for giving a basic knowledge.

Anyway thank you for your suggestion

My pleasure!

By the way, references are known to attract more upvotes ;)
