Today I wish to do a review of one of my earliest Scientific articles on Steemit which is !

The World still depends on fossil fuels, it's a hard fact to admits as the campaign for a more Nature-Friendly approach to Energy Generation and Consumption has been going on for over a decade now. More than 65% of the World Technology still runs on fossil fuel; Diesel, Gasoline, Premium Motor Spirit, Natural Gas and so on.

You can take a flight on a plane that runs on Solar yet or a cargo ship that imports and exports intercontinental goods, it is impeccable to note that Fossil Fuels still stand as a strong opposition to Renewable energy, and a good explanation would be maybe the technology to actualise the optimum potential of Renewable energy is still in its evolutionary stages, but with the pace of the World's advancement in Technology, Renewable energy might phase out fossil fuels and we have a more Enviromental friendly Universe to live in.

LNG

Liquefied Natural Gas is natural gas that is cooled at atmospheric pressure to -161°C to -162°C this occurs when;

"When gas is cooled into a liquid form, its volume falls to 1/600th of its original size, like compressing a beach ball to the size of a ping-pong ball. This allows the gas to be stored and transported more efficiently, as well as making it safer to transport because it's not stored under pressure and is not explosive if released into the atmosphere".

It is a source of energy, clean energy i.e cleaner than energy from coal which makes it more suitable because it plays an important role in helping lower toxic gas emissions globally where it is used instead of coal to generate electricity.

Where if comes from

LNG originates mainly from regions where vast volumes of natural gas have been discovered through different explorations, in places like the Middle East, the West Indies and North Africa. Some of these countries that produce LNG are Trinidad, Nigeria, Algeria, Egypt, Oman, Qatar, Indonesia, Malaysia and Australia.

Liquefied Natural Gas is preserved in tanks that are specially designed for full containment. A full containment tank consists of a metal inner tank and a concrete outer tank. Thermal insulation between the steel inner tank and the concrete outer layer of the tank will limit the evaporation of LNG to about 0.07% of the tank’s content daily.

What is the impact of LNG on the Environment?

Immediately LNG is regasified i.e warmed and converted back into gas, the environmental impact is similar to natural gas (e.g. smaller amount of CO2 emissions on combustion in comparison with coal- a notorious air pollutant).

"The energy needed in the regasification process can be generated by using some of the gas itself. If there is direct environmental exposure, for example through leakage, LNG causes less damage than an oil spill since it will immediately regasify."

YAMAL NLG PROJECT

One of the toughest most challenging real-life projects in the world today is the Yamal LNG Project, it was a joint partnership project between Gazprom, ExxonMobil, ConocoPhillips, Petro-Canada and Royal Dutch Shell, to build and run a Liquefied Natural Gas plant on the high sea.

"The project which Costs $27 Billion USD is a 3 Train capacity of 16.5 Million Tonnes of Liquefied Natural Gas per year. By the end of 2017, the first Train will be fully functional and the other two Trains will sync by 2021. It was Located deep in the Russian Arctic, where the temperature could fall as low as -40°C in the winter. The Sabetta where the LNG plant is situated lies in the Yamal Peninsula, North-Eastern Russia."

  • Developed by JSC Yamal LNG

  • JGC Corporation, Chiyaoda and Technip are the Technology companies handling the Design and Commisioning.

  • The special Gas tankers were constructed by Marine Engineering Ltd and Daewoo Ship Building Company.

  • The Turbines are supplied by Siemens, while Technopromexport handles the building of the power plants.

"Liquefied Natural Gas would be mainly Exported to Asian markets. Products to be shipped will be supplied from the Yuzhno-Tambeyskoye Gas field and the Northeastern passage on the sea will be the means to get it to all the potential markets in Asia."

i would like to hear your opinion on Pyrolysis and how it can help create green energy! this informative seris of post you are producing is quite entertaining and motivating!

Another topic for another day my friend, thanks for the kind words!

Renewable Energy is hitting giant momentum and more innovative clean energy sources are been experimented. Sadly, Fossil fuels seem to stay for a longer time

Yes, there has been no way to totally ditch fossil fuels yet.
