Happy Summer Solstice

Welcome to the First Day of Summer!
AKA as the Summer Solstice

So today is the longest day of the year. The sun will be highest in the sky at noon and will just seem to stay there forever! It will stay light latest at night tonight. In some places like Alaska it will be be light basically all night!

Although the summer (and winter) solstice is important to some religions, I don't think one must be (or not be) any particular religion to find the solstice days interesting. From now until December 21, the days will start to get shorter. I suppose today being the first day of summer is the same as it being the start of the end of summer. I suppose every end has to have a beginning and that would be the end of summer begins today. I guess it is like the glass is half full as well as being half empty lol, both are true but it all depends of your perspective.

The solstice should not be confused with the Equinox which is when the day is exactly the same length as the night. Now this is funny but one might think we (Earth) is closest to the sun in summer and further in winter. Actually the opposite is true. We are furthest in summer (aphelion) in two weeks!!

There is definitely something interesting about solstice. In Sweden we celebrate the solstice, by dancing around a maypole -- a symbol which some view as phallic.
Apparently 9 months after midsummer there is a baby boom hehe
Today many see it as a perfect excuse to drink a lot of booze, including myself !
