[Ethics] Ban Lifted on Animal-Human Hybrids

in #science7 years ago (edited)

Are human-animal hybrids ever a problem that you thought we'd have to consider? Scientists and ethicists established a ban against splicing human and animal genes to avoid people experimenting with Chimeras. Chimera's are an old idea brought new again with the help of science. Originally they were considered to be mythical creatures, used to tell tales of bullheaded stubbornness or sphinx-like mystique.

Chimera's in the 21st century could take any shape, as we have many animals to work with. My immediate concern stems from the fact that we would be creating likely an infertile unique being that would understandably not know their place in the world. The argument for being able to advance in this area of science stems from interests of growing and testing the embryos, but not fully grown beings.

I want to believe them, I really do. But people break rules.

What do you think? Should we be able to create Human-Animal Hybrids?

It is bound to happen, let it happen.

And if we don't take the proper procautions and all of a sudden we have 5000 centaurs claiming their independence in America, what do we do then?

You pack your bags and get out of the newly Independent State Of Centauria, that's what you do !

Amazing. I would support Centauria xD

They'd probably let you stay... on their free-range human reservation XD

I'd tame one and it could be my mount, and we'd be magically transported to 99% of modern DnD games.

Inevitable war?

"Instead of being tried for war crimes, the researchers involved in Unit 731 were secretly given immunity by the U.S. in exchange for the data they gathered through human experimentation."

Some key pioneering human medical trials came from very bad places, just throwing that out there. It does help progression.

Thank you @lvl for sharing this.

This has been done. With a pig this year. Link: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/2017/01/human-pig-hybrid-embryo-chimera-organs-health-science/

Probably why then an was lifted.

I don't think it's a good idea. It's not worth it in the end.

Thank you for sharing @srtiyea

Is this really being done now? Sounds pretty sick to me. We really need to develop spiritually before we mess around with this kind of stuff.

Its concerning because in a low level sense, they're forking the genome. There is a point where we can't go back.
