Potential of evaporation of water

in #science6 years ago

The evaporation of water produces energy that can also be used by humans. To harness this energy, Ozgur Sahin and his team developed an evaporative power plant. For this purpose, bacterial spores are fixed in a plastic jacket, which expand in moist air and contract again in dry air. If the humidity changes, this leads to a mechanical movement that drives a generator. This will generate a small amount of energy. Researchers estimate that the evaporation performance alone in the US to 320 GW. The amount of energy that can be used in real life depends on the efficiency of the evaporative power plants under development. Furthermore, no separate cooling towers are necessary because water can dissipate the heat well. As a result, a continuous operation of the power plants is possible.

It is reassuring to know that with science and technology, possible technologies that will harness alternative and renewable energy are coming into place, solar energy keeps improving, wind energy, hydro-powered plants and now even water evaporation can be harness as well.
