My veterinarian explained to me that antibiotic resistance can jump from one pet to your other pets, and even cross to humans. Apparently our government took this so seriously, every vet in the province was forced to attend a special training on antibiotic use, and if they did not, they could lose their license. Furthermore, they can no longer prescribe antibiotics without clear indication of infection being present.
